"The Rain the Park and Other Things" was never part of the lyrics of the song. It was commonly referred to as "The Flower Girl". The song went to Number Two for the band, the first of two Number Two hits by the Cowsills. The family singing group from Newport, Rhode Island, recorded the song "Hair" from the musical of the same name two years later which also peaked at Number Two.
The Cowsills began singing Beatle cover songs at Bannisters Wharf in Newport in 1965. Two years later they were signed to a record deal and "The Rain the Park and Other Things" was a single release from their debut album.
Co-writer of "The Rain the Park and Other Things", Artie Kornfield, went on to be one of the promoters of Woodstock.

The Small Faces members Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane composed "Itchycoo Park". The East London band was formed in 1965 by founding members Ronnie Lane, Jimmy Winston, Steve Marriott and Kenney Jones. In 1966 Ian McLagan replaced keyboardist Jimmy Winston. The band became one of the leading psychedelic groups before disbanding in 1969.
After the breakup three of the band's members joined guitar player Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart to form Faces.
Steve Marriot want on to work in Humble Pie in 1969. Drummer Kenny Jones was approached by The Who to replace Keith Moon in 1979.
