Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following bands formed first?

Answer: Metallica

Metallica was formed in 1981, Fear Factory was formed eight years later, and then finally Soulfly was formed eight years after that.
2. According to Max Cavalera, which bands influenced Soulfly?

Answer: Metallica

Soulfly was influenced by Metallica, though Soulfly's music is more similar to Fear Factory than to Metallica. Max Cavalera, quoted on MTV.com on the influence on Soulfly by Metallica: "I think Metallica, I feel that they were really on this path, like, maybe to be the most ultimate, unbelievable metal rock band and for some reason they went the other way, you know. And I don't know. I can't answer why but I know the lyrics stopped making as much sense. I don't know, maybe it's money. Money can do a lot of things like that. Who knows what went on their path but it is not the same band.

It's kind of a bummer because I really liked them a lot and I thought they were, since, .... Black Sabbath, there's nothing like that, with that level of attitude and intelligence in lyrics. James Hetfield wrote the most amazing lyrics in metal ever.

But it's cool, as long as they're happy with it."
3. Both Metallica and Soulfly use the same song title. Which is it?

Answer: One

"One" by Metallica was released 14 years before Soulfly recorded their "One". "Overkill" is a cover song by Metallica. "I Believe" and "Fire" are Soulfly songs.
4. Members of Fear Factory are featured in which song?

Answer: Eye for an Eye

All of these choices are first tracks of their respective albums. "Eye for an Eye" is the first track of the debut Soulfly album, as well as the first single released by Soulfly. "Eye for an Eye" is the only choice where guests are featured. "Eye for an Eye" features guitarist Dino Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell.

"Battery" and "Frantic" are Metallica songs, while "Downstroy" is a Soulfly song.
5. Which band features both Nirvana and U2 covers?

Answer: Fear Factory

The Nirvana song, titled "School", was covered by Fear Factory, appearing on their album "Archetype" as the last track. Fear Factory covered the U2 song "I Will Follow" on their following album "Transgression".
6. California, the most populous U.S. state, is home to how many of these bands?

Answer: Two

Los Angeles, California is home to Metallica and Fear Factory, while Phoenix, Arizona is Soulfly's hometown.
7. "Soulwound" was recorded by Soulfly.

Answer: False

The prefix may have stumped you on that one! "Soulwound" is a Fear Factory bonus track, played on the album "Obsolete".
8. Astronomy is my favorite field of study, and is also a song title played by which one of these bands?

Answer: Metallica

"Astronomy" was actually not independently invented by Metallica; it was first recorded by Blue Öyster Cult in 1974, and then Metallica re-recorded for their cover in 1998.
9. Metallica and Soulfly both have songs with "Seek" in their title with the other word separated by a conjunction. Metallica has "Seek & _______" and Soulfly has "Seek 'n' _______".

Answer: Destroy and Strike

When filled in those blanks in order with your correct choice, "Seek & Destroy" and "Seek 'n' Strike" will be completed. These songs were recorded nearly 20 years apart!
10. Which band released their greatest hits album in 2006?

Answer: Fear Factory

Fear Factory's greatest hits album, "The Best of Fear Factory", released in September 2006, plays songs from their first four albums. Soulfly's greatest hits album, "Best of Soulfly", released in 2009, plays songs from their first six albums. Metallica has not released a greatest hits album.
11. Which bands released an album beginning with 'Arch' in the titles?

Answer: Fear Factory and Soulfly

Fear Factory released their fifth album "Archetype" in 2004, while Soulfly released their tenth album "Archangel" in 2015; 11 years between Arches!
12. There was only one album released by one of these bands in 2001, the first year of the 21st century and of the third millennium. Which band released an album in 2001?

Answer: Fear Factory

Fear Factory released their fourth album, "Digimortal" in 2001. Soulfly went on to release an album the following year, while Metallica did not release their next album until 2003.
13. Which of the following bands released concept albums?

Answer: Fear Factory

Fear Factory released a couple of concept albums: "Obsolete" and "The Industrialist". Concept albums are albums that follow a story. "Obsolete" plots about mankind becoming obsolete by machines. The characters starring in "Obsolete" are Edgecrusher (the protagonist), Securiton (the antagonist), and Smasher/Devourer (the secondary antagonist). Those title characters are all song titles on the album.

The album has three scenes. "The Industrialist" starred the eponymous character as an automated protagonist.

The Industrialist was created through advances in science, technology and mechanics during the Industrial Age.
14. Which of these bands released an eponymous debut album (albums with the same title as their band, for their first album)?

Answer: Soulfly

Soulfly's first album title was indeed "Soulfly". Metallica's eponymous album was their fifth album released, which the fans often refer to the album as "The Black Album" to distinguish it from the band itself. Fear Factory did not even release their eponymous album.
15. Which band release their first ten studio albums in the shortest amount of time?

Answer: Soulfly

Soulfly took just 18 years to release ten studio albums, while Fear Factory took 26 years to release that many studio albums. Even though Metallica were formed in 1981, well before Fear Factory and Soulfly came into existence, they haven't release their tenth studio album yet.
