Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Same band with different lead vocalist - Arnel Pineda - since 2007

Answer: Journey

Who would have thought that Journey could ever adequately replace the great Steve Perry? Even though Arnel Pineda has been with the group since 2007, I just wasn't expecting to hear the voice or see the showmanship that was immediately apparent. His energy is simply amazing! Of course, with all of the others - Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Steve Smith, and Jonathan Cain - who have been playing with the band since 1980 or before, they put on quite a performance.
2. "Only You Know and I Know" this founding member of Traffic

Answer: Dave Mason

Dave Mason can really play the guitar! I didn't realize it beforehand, but he had played and recorded with many FAMOUS artists, such as Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Jimi Hendrix, for whom he played the twelve-string guitar on "All Along The Watchtower". Mason's first band, Traffic, formed in 1967, included Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood.

Their song, "Hole In My Shoe", which Mason wrote, was one of their biggest hits, reaching Number Two on the UK Singles Chart. "Only You Know and I Know" was released by the band in 1970 on the "Alone Together" album.
3. "Listen To The Music" and see if you can hear this group

Answer: Doobie Brothers

It was obvious that the Doobie Brothers were having fun on stage, and both their vocals (solo and harmonies) and instrumentals still sounded great, as evidenced in their opening song, "Jesus Is Just Alright". While their set included newer songs, they played nine songs in their program that were from their greatest hits album, "Best of the Doobies", released in 1976.

In fact, since 1969, the band has had five Top Ten singles and 16 Top 40 hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
4. Celebrated the 50th anniversary of "Pet Sounds" this summer

Answer: Brian Wilson

Many music critics view "Pet Sounds" as the first concept album of rock music. What that means is that the album had a collective purpose. Brian Wilson planned for it to be the answer to the Beatles' 1965 "Rubber Soul". He later said, "I liked the way it all went together, the way it was all one thing.

It was a challenge to me ... It didn't make me want to copy them but to be as good as them. I didn't want to do the same kind of music, but on the same level". While Brian Wilson doesn't sing the way he used to sing, and the only other Beach Boy in his band was Al Jardine, (Mike Love and Bruce Johnston were touring as the Beach Boys in the summer of 2016), hearing the album in its entirety from start to finish was an unforgettable experience. Of course, other hits were included in their concert set.
5. Don't miss this artist's Labor Day Weekend concert at the Gorge Amphitheater

Answer: Dave Matthews

The 2016 concert at the Gorge in Washington State was a must-see concert for Dave Matthews fans, as it had already been announced that the DMB would not tour together in 2017. If you have never been to the Gorge, it is an outdoor concert venue that overlooks the Columbia River near the small town of George, Washington. For twelve years, the band has performed a three-day concert at the location during the Labor Day weekend; they have, however, played concerts at the venue for twenty-two years. While attending the must-see three-day event, it is important to remember to pick up a different DMB poster each day!
6. Reunion concert with Jim Messina, one of the group's founding members

Answer: Poco

Poco has had quite a line-up in the past, with performers like Timothy B Schmidt (Eagles), Richie Furray, and Paul Cotton; the band's current lineup of Rusty Young, Jack Sundrud, Michael Webb, and George Lawrence, however, can really play! Rusty Young, the only founding member who still plays with the band, is considered to be a virtuoso on pedal steel guitar, and he can also sing, as evidenced in the band's 1989 hit, "Call It Love". Jim Messina, also one of the band's founding members, is perhaps better known for his association with Kenny Loggins.

It was a real treat to have him back playing the old Poco tunes with the band, as well as playing some of his own big hits!
7. One of their greatest hits always concludes with "Thank you, Daisy"

Answer: America

America still has two of its founding members - Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley - and added Richard Campbell on bass to the touring group in 2003. Their concerts never disappoint! The 2016 touring group also included two younger musicians, Ryland Steen on drums/percussion and Andy Barr, who played an amazing assortment of instruments including various types of guitars, keyboard, and banjo, as well as singing backup vocals.

The result was - AMAZING! The song mentioned in the clue, of course, is "Daisy Jane", a 1975 hit by the band, which can be found on their album, "Hearts".

When asked about the topic of the song, Beckley said, "There was no such person as Daisy Jane and I had never even been to Memphis". He has, however, said "Thank you, Daisy" at the conclusion of the song every time I have heard him sing it!
8. Former members of Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Randle Chowning and Larry Lee

Answer: Beyond Reach

As a long-time fan of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, I was brokenhearted when Randle Chowning and Larry Lee left the band; no one - and I mean no one - can sing "Jackie Blue" like Larry does or "If You Wanna Get To Heaven" like Randle. They formed a new group, Beyond Reach, together, however, and even though they do not play together often, they performed in the St. Louis area twice during the Fall of 2016.

They told stories and played both old hits and new songs! These guys still rock! So does the third member of the group, David Wilson, who plays a wide variety of instruments.
9. Lead singer, a new dad, was on hiatus from "The Voice"

Answer: Maroon 5

While fans can see Adam Levine on "The Voice", he was on hiatus from the show in the fall of 2016. With band members James Valentine (guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards) and Matt Flynn (drums), Levine performed hits, such as "This Love", "Animals", "Maps", "Lucky Strike", and "Harder to Breathe".

In addition they played two tribute numbers, David Bowie's "Let's Dance" and "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince. It took a lot of patience to wait for this concert; while the tour was announced in November 2015, some dates were changed due to the birth of Levine's first child.
10. Fiftieth anniversary of his group's St. Louis concert, this time it was "One on One".

Answer: Paul McCartney

When the Beatles came to St. Louis in 1966 they played at Busch Stadium I on a day when it was pouring rain. The group was moved up in the program (other bands were also on the playbill) when the rain broke, and they played eleven songs in about thirty minutes. Shortly after that the group quit touring.

It was very apparent that touring is something that Sir Paul enjoys immensely. The concert at Busch Stadium III lasted well over two hours, and while his band members took a break, Sir Paul continued to play. He told jokes; he told stories. He played what he said was one of the first songs (1958) he wrote with George Harrison, called "In Spite of All the Danger". He played a song for Linda, followed by one for his current wife, Nancy. Imagine sitting in a dark stadium with other 41,000+ fans holding cell phone flashlights (the concert sold out in less than an hour!), listening to Sir Paul sing "Let It Be". It was an unforgettable experience.
