Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the song recorded by the Beatles about being head over heels in love with a "sweet and lovely, girl"?

Answer: For You Blue

This song was written by George Harrison for his wife at the time.
2. What is the song recorded by Black Sabbath dealing with someone saying "our love grows stronger now with every hour"?

Answer: N.I.B.

N.I.B. thought for many years to mean "Nativity In Black" was actually named after Bill Ward. His nickname was Nibby (as in the top of a pen) because his beard came to a point. Pen nibs are used in caligraphy.
3. What is the song recorded by Led Zeppelin in which they have "dreams of you all through my head"?

Answer: Black Dog

This song has nothing to do with the color of an animal. It just so happened that no title for this song could be thought of, so they dedicated it to a stray black dog wandering through the studio.
4. What is the song recorded by The Rolling Stones where you must "use all your well-learned politesse, Or I'll lay your soul to waste"?

Answer: Sympathy for the Devil

This song written by Mick and Keith was inspired by a novel written by Mikhail Bulgakov called "The Master and Margarita".
5. What great song recorded by Black Sabbath said "people think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time"?

Answer: Paranoid

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler (from Guitar World magazine, March 2004): "A lot of the 'Paranoid' album was written around the time of our first album, 'Black Sabbath'. We recorded the whole thing in about two or three days, live in the studio. The song 'Paranoid' was written as an afterthought. We basically needed a three minute filler for the album, and Tony came up with the riff. I quickly did the lyrics, and Ozzy was reading them as he was singing." (thanks, Tim - Miramichi, Canada)
6. What awesome song recorded by Led Zeppelin said that "our only goal will be the western shore"?

Answer: The Immigrant Song

One of the lyrics is "Valhalla I am coming." It refers to Norse Mythology. Valhalla is a hall in Asgard where the souls of fallen warriors are taken by the "Valkyries," which are spirits of war who carry up heroes who have been slain. Only heroes are taken to Valhalla, where they will wait for their certain doom. (thanks, Mike - Chicago, IL)
7. What song by the heavy metal sounds of Iron Maiden sang "now the crowd breaks and a young boy appears"?

Answer: Flight Of Icarus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
"The song is loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus who was imprisoned with his father Daedalus in the Labyrinth on Crete. So the pair fabricated wings for themselves from feathers and wax. Unfortunately Icarus, not heeding the advice of his father, flew too close to the sun, melting the wax that held the feathers together and thus fell to his death in the sea.
Vocalist Bruce Dickinson admits that he had modified the original tale to make it an allegory of teenage rebellion against adult authority (which caused the death of Icarus in this case)."
8. What song by Supertramp made us ask "won't you please, please tell me what we've learned"?

Answer: Logical Song

This is a quote from vocalist/bassist Roger Hogson on this particular song...
"You can't preach to people, but you can stimulate their thoughts, and I think that this song does do that. I hate to use the word 'message,' but the thought here is that throughout childhood you are told so many things, and yet you are never told who you really are; you are not told anything about your real self. Very rarely, anyway. We are taught how to function outwardly, but not told who we are inwardly, and no one explains it to us." This song is on the album "Breakfast in America" released on November 30, 1978.
9. What sinister sounds from Black Sabbath scared us with the "big black shape with eyes of fire"?

Answer: Black Sabbath

The title came from a 1964 Borrs Karloff movie.
This was the first song on the first Black Sabbath album. The album cost $1200 to make and took about eight hours to record.
10. What song recorded by, once again, Black Sabbath asked us "When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?"?

Answer: After Forever

Quite a different picture of the band is painted in such songs as "After Forever" (with the lyric, "God is the only way to love") and Osbourne's frequent flashing of the peace sign during Black Sabbath concerts.
