Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Beatles' song "A Hard Day's Night" which reached #1 on the UK, CAN, & USA singles charts was sung by this member...

Answer: John Lennon

The song of course was on the Beatles' album "A Hard Day's Night" and was also featured in the film by the same title. The title of the song came from something Ringo Starr had said. According to Ringo the band had worked for an extended amount of time and when they finished Ringo thought that they had worked all day. Thinking this he announced "it's been a hard day" thinking that it was night, but upon looking around he realised that it was actually morning and quickly added "...night." And from that Ringo-ism "A Hard Day's Night" was born.
2. The song "For No One" features a French horn to give the song a different sound but who sang this song?

Answer: Paul McCartney

"For No One" can be found on The Beatles album "Revolver." Neither John Lennon or George Harrison worked on the song while Paul sang and played bass, piano, and clavichord. The song also features french horn player Alan Civil, who called his work on the song the "performance of my life."
3. The song "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" was featured on the double disc Beatles' album commonly known as "The White Album". Who performed the vocals on it?

Answer: John Lennon

According to John Lennon the song is about the history of rock 'n' roll as it contained 5 different sections in 3 minutes. It is believed that some of the imagery in the song came from an acid trip that John Lennon and Derek Taylor experienced together.
4. The song "Piggies" by the Beatles' which is also found on "The White Album" was sung by who?

Answer: George Harrison

Due to the songs title many people took it to be an anti-law enforcement song which George Harrison always denied. Instead saying that it was about corporate greed.
5. "Fixing A Hole" released on the 1967 "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album was sung by this Beatle...

Answer: Paul McCartney

A humourous story about the recording process is that one night Paul McCartney found a man standing by the gate of his house who called himself "Jesus Christ". McCartney had tea with the stranger and agreed to bring him to the studio (if he'd be quiet)while they were working on this song.

Another version of the story is that it was John Lennon who brought "Jesus Christ" into the studio after finding him hanging out in front of the studio. After they finished recording the song the man left and none of the Beatles ever saw the stranger again...
6. Who is that singing on the song "Don't Pass Me By"?

Answer: Ringo Starr

The song can be found on "The White Album." It was the first solo composition by Ringo Starr. This song contributed to the "Paul Is Dead" rumours surrounding the band's music thanks to the line "I'm sorry that I doubted you, I was so unfair, You were in a car crash and you lost your hair". The last part "lost your hair" is believed to be a reference to Paul's song "When I'm 64."
7. "Love You To", found on the album "Revolver", was the creation of this Beatle...

Answer: George Harrison

This was the first Beatles' song to merge rock music with classical Indian music. George Harrison played both the sitar and tamboura and double tracked his lyrics. Ringo Starr is the only other Beatle on the song, playing a tambourine. Indian musician Anil Bhagwat played the tabla for the song.
8. Who sings lead on the Beatles song "Michelle"?

Answer: Paul McCartney

This song can be found on the album "Rubber Soul." It is the only Beatles song to have lyrics in French.

Paul McCartney asked a French teacher named Ivan Vaughn to come up with a French name and a phrase that could rhyme to it. George Martin also worked on the song, writing the lead guitar melodies. John Lennon came up with the "I Love you" bridge.
9. "Norwegian Wood (The Bird Has Flown)" is famous for it's use of a unconventional instrument, but it was sung by this Beatle....

Answer: John Lennon

The song can be found on the album "Rubber Soul." The song is well known for two reasons, first it was the first time the Beatles had used an Indian instrument on a song as George Harrison played sitar. Secondly the way John sung the vocals and his lyrics were reminiscent of the music being made by Bob Dylan. Dylan himself decided to respond by doing a song that was similiar called "Fourth Time Around." John Lennon always felt that Bob Dylan had made the song in response to "Norwegian Wood" but that it was all in fun.
10. The Beatles' album "Abbey Road" which is certified 12x platinum featured the song "Something" by this bandmember...

Answer: George Harrison

George has said that at first he planned on giving the song to Jackie Lomax but it fell through. George then gave the song to Joe Cocker who would actually release his version of the song prior to George's version being released. George had not wanted to use the song at first as he was afraid the song would receive a lack of effort from the rest of the band.

Instead both John Lennon and Paul McCartney would call "Something" George's best work. It is the second most covered Beatles song of all time.
11. The album "Let It Be" was ranked as the #86 all time album by Rolling Stone magazine. The song "Across The Universe" was a big reason for the album's sucess; who sang it?

Answer: John Lennon

On Feb. 4th 2008 NASA transmitted the song "All Across The Universe" in the direction of the star Polaris, which is about 430 lightyears from Earth. It is only the second song to be transmitted into outer space (the first being "1st Theremin Concert to Aliens, section 2 of the Teen Age Message").
12. The Beatles' released a cartoon movie "Yellow Submarine" in 1968. One of the movies' songs (European release) was "Hey Bulldog"; who sang it?

Answer: John Lennon

The song is interesting for the fact that the song was changed on the remastered version of the sound track "Yellow Submarine." The only changes though deal with the channels, such as having on lead guitar solely on the right channel. There was also editing done to the guitar solo.
13. One of the Beatles most famous songs is "Let It Be", who sang it?

Answer: Paul McCartney

According to Paul McCartney the song was inspired by a dream he had of his Mother, Mary McCartney, during a tense period of recording for "Let It Be" album. Paul said in his dream his mother told him "it will be alright, just let it be."
14. Who sang lead on the song "If I Needed Someone"?

15. "The Fool On The Hill" was one of the Beatles first non-love songs, who was the singer?

Answer: Paul McCartney

According to author Alistair Taylor the origins of the song come from a time when he and Paul McCartney were walking on Primrose Hill and had a strange person mysteriously appeared next to them.He then just as quickly disappeared again. Perplexed by this Alistair and Paul began a conversation about whether there is a God, and from this Paul wrote "The Fool On The Hill."

Answer: Ringo Starr

A demo version on the Anthology Albums features Ringo singing "What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you throw ripe tomatoes at me?" But Ringo demanded that the line be changed because he was afraid that band members or fans would throw tomatoes at him if he were to ever sing the song live.

In the past George Harrison had said he liked jelly babies which lead to him being pelted with them by the rest of the Beatles at most of their live performances. Ringo wanted to avoid having to deal with anything similiar.
17. "The White Album" song "Cry Baby Cry" was sung by this Beatle...

Answer: John Lennon

John Lennon himself hated this song so much that when asked about it by a reporter he replied "not mine, a piece of rubbish." Paul McCartney would call it "one of John's Indian songs." Despite the fact that demo versions of the song were recorded prior to the Beatles going to India.
18. "Only A Northern Song" was sung by this Beatle...

Answer: George Harrison

George Harrison has said that the line "only a northern song" is a reference to both Liverpool and Northern Songs Publishing company, Lennon/McCartney's company, which George occasionally wrote for.

The song is also believed to be mocking Paul & John's psychedlic music that they were making at that time. It is also thought to be referring to Paul and John's under-utilizing Harrison's talent, that it didn't matter what he did because it was just a "northern song."
