Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following Beatles' albums was made into a movie?

Answer: Let It Be

"Let It Be" was a 1970 documentary film about the making of the album. Except for bootleg copies, it has not been available since the 1980s. The film is done from an observer's point of view, without narration or interviews. It also contains an unannounced rooftop concert at the Apple Studio. This would end up being the band's last public performance.
2. Who had a number one hit with "Lonely Teardrops" and was known as "Mr. Excitement"?

Answer: Jackie Wilson

The song was released in 1958 and was written by Berry Gordy. He took the money he made from the song and formed Motown Records. Tragically, Wilson suffered a heart attack while singing the song during "Dick Clark's Good Ol' Rock 'N Roll Revue" in 1975. He fell into a coma and remained in that condition until his death in 1984.
3. Name the Grand Funk Railroad song with these first lines: "On the road for forty days, Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze. Sweet, sweet Connie -- doin' her act, She had the whole show and that's a natural fact."

Answer: We're An American Band

The song was inspired by an argument between the group and the British group Humble Pie, who they were touring with at the time. During the heated discussion about American versus British groups, drummer Don Brewer stood up and boasted "We're An American Band". Brewer wrote the song the next morning.
4. Which song had almost all of its lyrics taken from the Bible?

Answer: "Turn! Turn! Turn!" by The Byrds

Writer Pete Seeger wrote only six words for the song. The last line, "I swear it's not too late", was added to the third verse of the Book of Ecclesiastes from the Bible.
5. What single four letter word fills in all the blanks in the lyrics of this 1968 Deep Purple hit? ____ ____ I thought I heard her calling my name now ____ ____ She broke my heart but I love her just the same now ____ ____ I thought I heard her calling my name now ____ ____ I need her loving and I'm not to blame now.

Answer: Hush

The song was originally recorded with Rod Evans as lead vocalist. In 1988 it was re-released for the band's 20 year anniversary with Ian Gillan on vocals.
6. "Roll Over Beethoven" is a classic rock and roll song that has been covered by many artists, including The Beatles. Which other classical composer besides Beethoven was mentioned in the song?

Answer: Tchaikovsky

The song was written and released by Chuck Berry in 1956. It also pays tribute to several other artists including Carl Perkins (Blue Suede Shoes), Louis Jordan (Early in the Mornin') and Bo Diddley (Hey Diddle, Diddle).

"Hey little little
Gonna play my fiddle
Ain't got nothing to lose
Roll over Beethoven
And tell Tchaikovsky the news."
7. What city did "Kiss" call "Rock City"?

Answer: Detroit

"Detroit Rock City" was originally released in 1976 as a single with "Beth" on the B-side. When "Beth", a ballad sung by Peter Criss gained popularity, it was reissued with "Beth" on the A-side.
8. Which ex-Beatle released "My Sweet Lord" in 1970?

Answer: George Harrison

Harrison was sued over the song because of similarities to The Chiffon's "He's So Fine". The court ruled that Harrison had "subconsciously" copied from the first song. To capitalize on the publicity, The Chiffons did a cover of the song in 1975.
9. What group had a hit with a song with the following lyrics in 1967? "Imagine me and you, I do, I think about you day and night It's only right, To think about the girl you love And hold her tight, So happy together."

Answer: The Turtles

Since the 1970s, "Happy Together" has been used in dozens of movies, television shows and commercials.
10. "A Day in the Life" is the last track from "The Beatles" album "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." In the first part of the song, it tells about a man who dies. How did he die?

Answer: blew his mind out

The first two verses were written by John Lennon and were based on the death of a friend, Tara Browne. Browne, the heir to the Guinness fortune, ran a traffic light in his Lotus, causing the crash.

"He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords."
