Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Can you name the song this line comes from? "Walking tall, machine gun man."

Answer: "Rooster" - Alice in Chains

From the 1992 Alice in Chains release, "Dirt". This song was written about lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell's Vietnam veteran father. Probably my favorite band of the decade, Alice in Chains' usually heavy and disturbing yet brilliantly crafted songs make them one of the 90s best talents.
2. Which song gave us this memorable line? "You float like a feather, in a beautiful world."

Answer: "Creep" - Radiohead

This song can be found on "Pablo Honey", Radiohead's 1992 debut. A favorite of both critics and fans alike, Radiohead formed in Oxford, England in 1987.
3. Which song is this from? "I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her."

Answer: "A Long December" - Counting Crows

This song is from the Counting Crows 1996 CD, "Recovering the Satellites".These guys decided to officially form a band after filling in for Van Morrison at the 1993 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Their debut album, "August and Everything After", was released later that year.
4. Can you name this one? "Happiness is just a purchase away."

Answer: "Wax Ecstatic" - Sponge

From the CD, "Wax Ecstatic", released in 1996. Sponge formed in Detroit, Michigan in the early 90s. Their debut "Rotting Pinata" was released in 1994.
5. Which song is this line from? "I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's sky but why, why, why can't it be, can't it be mine?"

Answer: "Black" - Pearl Jam

A beautiful song from Pearl Jam's 1991 debut, "Ten". Pearl Jam have shown their incredible versatility and endurance as the only one of the four major label "Grunge" bands to still exist. Also worth a listen are their albums, "Vs." (1993), "Vitalogy" (1994), "No Code" (1996), "Yield" (1998), and "Riot Act" (2002).
6. What's this one? "And I promise you, I will treat you well, my sweet angel."

Answer: "Possum Kingdom" - Toadies

From the Toadies 1994 debut, "Rubberneck". This is the only song by the Toadies most people have heard but this whole CD and their 2000 CD "Hell Below/Stars Above" are full of great songs. The band hail from Ft. Worth, Texas, where they formed in 1990. Sadly, they disbanded in 2001.
7. Here's one of my favorite lines. Can you name it? "The words you say never seem to live up to the ones inside your head."

Answer: "The Day I Tried to Live" - Soundgarden

A great line from a great song off of Soundgarden's 1994 release, "Superunknown". Another huge chunk of the Seattle music scene died when Soundgarden announced their breakup in April, 1997. Other Soundgarden releases include "Louder Than Love" (1989), "Badmotorfinger" (1991), and "Down on the Upside" (1996).
8. What song gave us these lines? "We love the all, the all of you. Our lands are green and skies are blue."

Answer: "In the Meantime" - Spacehog

From the CD "Resident Alien", released in 1995. Spacehog formed in 1994 in New York City. Brothers Antony(bass;vocals) and Royston(guitar;vocals) Langdon joined forces with drummer, Jonny Cragg and later, guitarist Richard Steel to form one of the decade's most underrated bands. They released "The Chinese Album" in 1998 and "Hogyssey" in 2001.
9. Which song is this one from? "Lend me a quarter won't you? I'll call my accountant."

Answer: "Get Off This" - Cracker

From Cracker's 1993 CD, "Kerosene Hat". The song "Low" was a more widely heard song but this one received radio airplay as well and is, in my opinion, a better song. This CD also contains the eight minute epic "Euro-Trash Girl" hidden amongst the 99 tracks (all but 16 of which are three seconds of silence).
10. And the last line is from what song? "Who killed that bird out on your window sill?"

Answer: "Remedy" - Black Crowes

Another from 1992. What a great year that was for Rock-n-roll! This one is from "Southern Harmony and the Musical Companion".
