Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before they called themselves The Cure, Robert Smith, Porl Thompson, Michael Dempsey and Laurence Tolhurst were known as Easy Cure.

Answer: True

The first version of the "gothic" legends was a slightly more punk outfit from Crawley, Sussex in the mid 70s called Easy Cure.
2. Throughout the years The Cure has maintained its original members.

Answer: False

Since 1976, there have been over eleven different line up changes in The Cure. The only constant being singer and founding member Robert Smith. Bass player Simon Gallup holds second place at over twenty-five (off and on) years in The Cure.
3. In 1983 Robert Smith and Steven Severin formed a band called The Mittens.

Answer: False

Answer: False

Having met his future wife in school at the tender age of fourteen, Mary Poole had not yet become Mrs Robert Smith. The video was filmed in 1987. They were later married in 1988.
5. Contrary to popular belief, Robert Smith and Morrissey are best mates. On weekends it is rumored that they concoct sweeties to keep their drummers from exploding.

Answer: False

For reasons that will probably never be known, Smith and Morrissey have never got along. Smith once told a reporter "If Morrissey says don't eat meat, then I'm going to eat meat, because I hate Morrissey."
6. The Cure once recorded an eleven second version of The Doors classic "Hello, I Love You"

Answer: True

As a joke, The Cure sent an eleven second version of The Doors song to Electra Records for their 40th anniverary compilation "Rubaiyat." Record executives did not see the humor, and The Cure eventually sent them a new version. One can find the eleven second version on The Cure's box set "Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities" released in 2004.
7. Before joining The Cure, Roger O'Donell played keyboards for The Psychedelic Furs.

Answer: True

Roger O'Donell played keyboards for The Furs, Berlin, and The Thompson Twins before joining The Cure in 1987. His tenure with the band would be off and on for the next nineteen years. In 2006 he was fired by Smith via e-mail.
8. Longtime guitarist Porl Thompson left The Cure to tour and record with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in 1993.

Answer: True

Porl Thompson was one of the original members of The Cure in 1976. Dueling guitar ego's forced him to leave The Cure in 1979. He would later rejoin The Cure in 1983. After ten solid years he would leave again to record and tour with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page as one of many musicians on the "No Quarter" album released in 1994. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Porl rejoined The Cure yet again in 2005 and is expected to record on the next Cure album.
9. In 2004, The Cure headlined a concert tour called "Curiosa."

Answer: True

From July 24 to August 29 of 2004, The Cure headlined a North American tour called "Curiosa." Other acts featured on the main stage were Interpol, Mogwai, and The Rapture. The second stage offered a variety of different acts per show, including Muse, Cursive, and Thursday to name a few.
10. In 2005, The Cure was just one of many bands that took part in the global Live 8 concerts. Their five song set stole the show at the Museum Of Art in Philadelphia.

Answer: False

Cure fans were glad to see Porl back in the line up for this historic show. However they played their five songs at the Chateau de Versailles in Paris, not in Philly.
