The line "Perhaps you'd better start from the beginning" found at the start of "Electric Head Pt. 1" is a quote from the movie "The Curse of Frankenstein".

"Wait And Bleed" can be found on Slipknot's self-titled debut album. Slipknot immediately found mainstream recognition with this song as it was nominated for a Grammy. VH1 included the song on its "40 Greatest Metal Songs" list. Pretty good for a newcomer to be thrown in with the heavies that soon.

"Am I Evil?" was originally released in 1980 by the aforementioned Diamond Head. But, the most famous version was by metal giants Metallica.

"Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs" is the wonderfully original title of the album "Just One Fix" is found on and the album was released in 1992. The song in question is undoubtedly one of the loudest songs ever recorded. Oh, and it has a sample of Frank Sinatra in it.

"Whiplash" can be found on Metallica's debut release "Kill Em All". It is four minutes of pure unadulterated frenzy. No rest for the wicked on this one. You're sure to go home with a sore neck.

This classic tune is a personal favorite of mine. Not just because of it being a killer song, but because of the lyrical meaning behind it. What this song does is take many of the stereotypes of heavy metal fans and flushes them down the toilet. Stereotypes such as we are lazy, no good, and a drain on society.

Sepultura were no strangers to taking on the brutalities of the world through music. "Refuse/Resist" is one of those songs. In its simplest meaning, the song is a protest tune against totalitarian governments and militia induced fear.

"Mouth For War" was a milestone song for Pantera. It was their first song to ever hit the charts anywhere. It went all the way to #24 in the states. Not bad for a time when many people claimed heavy metal was dying.

"Hell Awaits" is the title track off of Slayer's 1985 album. It is one of the most brutal songs around. With demonic sounding guitar work and backward vocals, it is easy to see why Slayer was under fire from conservatives everywhere during their early days.

Speaking of controversy, Slayer thrived under it. With little to no radio play, even in the heyday of 1980's heavy metal, Slayer would possibly never have eventually claimed their throne as the kings of thrash metal without the Tipper Gores of the world trying like mad to fight the music.

On a personal note, Slayer holds a special place in my heart. I will never forget that fateful night when I saw them live for the first time. The date was October 26, 1996. It was cold. It was windy. There was a full moon. Slayer took the stage, grabbed me by the throat, and hasn't let me go yet. I've seen many bands, but none of them have ever matched the power of Slayer.

However, in 2013, everything changed. Guitarist and founding member Jeff Hanneman died. Slayer's future might be uncertain at this point, but their legacy is set in stone.
