Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hello everyone, I'm Saratogarox. My favorite musician was born in Canada in 1938. Some of my favorite songs include "Song for a Winter's Night", "Race Among the Ruins" and "Did She Mention My Name". One that many people know him for is about a sunken ship.

Answer: Gordon Lightfoot

Gordon Lightfoot has written many great songs including "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Beautiful", "Sundown" and "Carefree Highway". I have seen him in concert three times and was lucky enough to sit in the front row twice.
2. Greetings, Ankhsunamun1 here in Scotland. My favourite band have just recently celebrated fifty years. They are one of Britain's best loved bands. Their name means in English, 'the existing state of affairs', but the Latin version gives you their name. Who are they?

Answer: Status Quo

I have followed the Quo for almost the same length of time that they have been going. Originally, there were four members and were good friends, but a series of infighting, led to two of them leaving and new members being brought in. The two who remained are Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt. If you have not heard of them or their music (shame on you!), then I recommend a listen, and try not to tap your feet or nod your head.

It is impossible!
3. Hello, Frost Dragon Shedrgn13 here. Here's my question. Which band, who started in the 1960s, sang about a fish, magic, babies, and psychiatric problems?

Answer: Heart

The names of the four songs were fish-"Barracuda". "Magic Man". Babies--"All I Wanna Do is Make Love to you". Psychiatric problems--"Crazy on You". Anne was/is the lead vocalist; her sister Nancy plays lead guitarist. They are known for their versatility.

They can sing rock-the-house-down vocals and also poignant ballads where Anne can make you cry. They are making a comeback and I plan on being there!
4. Hello CindyK41 here. My favorite band's first album came out in 1969. No need to be "Dazed and Confused" on what band this is. Who are these rock legends?

Answer: Led Zeppelin

The members of Led Zeppelin were Jimmy Page, John Bonham, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones. They had nine albums together (ten if you count "Coda"). The group disbanded after the death of John Bonham on September 25, 1980. What a sad day for rock.
5. Kimbwitchn from the USA here. My favorite group was formed on May 4th, 1964 in Erdington, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. There have been changes in group members over the years. This group released an album in 1969 called "On the Threshold of a Dream." Who are they?

Answer: Moody Blues

Most recently, the Moody Blues members are Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, and John Lodge. Their 1967 album "Days of Future Passed" was very innovative in that it fused classical music with rock. In summer 2014, they toured the US and Canada.
6. Hi, ElusiveDream here! My favourite band are a Danish group, formed in the early 90s. The first time most people heard of them was when their hit song "Barbie Girl" was released. Which band do I like?

Answer: Aqua

My favourite band is Aqua. While "Barbie Girl" is one of their most popular and well known songs, other songs they wrote include "Cartoon Heroes", "Doctor Jones", "My Oh My" and "Lollipop".
7. Tony_TV_King here. My favorite musician is a father of three girls and has recorded many well known songs in his career such as "The River", "Unanswered Prayers" and "That Summer". What is the name of my favorite singer/songwriter who throughout his career has definitely been "Tearin' It Up and Burnin' It Down" across the globe?

Answer: Garth Brooks

Born Troyal Garth Brooks on February 7th, 1962, Garth has had many huge hits including "Friends in Low Places", "Standing Outside the Fire" and "Beaches of Cheyenne". It was announced in 2013, that Garth would be coming out of retirement to the delight of many of his fans. Garth has three daughters named Taylor, August, and Allie.
8. Hey hey, it's FrizzoLizzo here. My favourite musician hails from Texas, and since his beginnings in the 1970s, his career is still going strong today. Most recognised for his Grammy award-winning song "Cliffs of Dover", some of his other songs include "High Landrons", "Emerald Eyes", and "Venus Isle". Who is my favourite musician?

Answer: Eric Johnson

Born in 1954 in Austin, Texas, Eric Johnson is without a doubt my favourite artist! Before he began his solo career, he was guitarist for The Electromagnets, who formed in 1974 but disbanded three years later. When he did begin his solo career, he hit the world by storm, and even now in 2014, he is still producing fantastic albums and songs!
9. Hey fellow music lovers. Shedrgn here. One of my all time favorite bands is the Eagles. They wrote and sang many top hits. This question will be for an Eagle lover at heart. On the album (yes, album) "On The Border" there is a song about a man who is getting out of town, away from a gal trying to pin him down. Can you tell me the first line of the song "Midnight Flyer"?

Answer: A runaway team of horses, ain't enough to make me stay

"All alone at the end of the evening", goes with the song "Take It To The Limit" on the "Desperado" album from 1972. "Lying Eyes" in which "City girls just seem to find out early" comes from the album "One of These Nights". From the song "Take It Easy" from the album "Eagles" comes "I've been running down the road trying to loosen my load". The correct song is "Midnight Flyer" with a man jumping a train and gettin' out of Dodge!
Seems like a lot of their songs were about either getting away from or trying to keep their women!
10. Kimbwitchn here. My favorite singer was born May 1st, 1939, in Seattle, Washington. Over the course of a long career, this singer released albums called "Wildflowers", "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" and "Whales and Nightingales", among others. Who is this singer?

Answer: Judy Collins

Judy contracted polio at age 11 and spent two months in the hospital in isolation. Her only child, son Clark, committed suicide in 1992 at age thirty-three. Judy was romantically involved with Stephen Stills and was the inspiration for his classic "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes." She is probably best known for her recordings of Sondheim's "Send In The Clowns" and Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now."
