Same Cooke recorded "Wonderful World" in 1959 for his Keen Records album "The Wonderful World of Sam Cooke" The song was composed by Cooke along with Herb Alpert and Lou Adler. Sam Cooke had departed the Keen label and had signed with RCA when the song was released by Keen. A young Lou Rawls provided backup harmony on the recording.
Sam's original version reached Number 12 in 1960 on the US charts. Herman's Hermits' version left out a verse but still topped out at Number Four in the US and peaked at Number Seven in the UK.
The Motown group The Supremes were one of the first groups to record a cover version after Cooke's death for their "We Remember Sam Cooke" LP in 1965.
Sam Cooke's version was used in the 1978 film, "Animal House", during the food fight scene.
"Am I the Man" was a Top Forty single for Jackie Wilson in 1960. Fats Domino's "Country Boy" made it to Number 25 the same year and "Let the Little Girl Dance" was a US Top Ten for Billy Bland.

Leslie Bricusse and Cyril Ornadel composed "If I Ruled the World" for the West End musical "Pickwick" (1963), which was based on "Pickwick Papers" by Charles Dickens. Sir Harry Secombe reached Number 18 with the song in 1963 in the UK. Tony Bennett recorded and released his version two years later. In 2006 he teamed up with Celine Dion and recorded the song for the Grammy-winning "Duets: An American Classic" album.

"If I Could Build My Whole World Around You" was the third single recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. It made the Top Ten on the US Pop charts. "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By" were two other successful duets recorded by the pair.
While performing together in 1967 Tammi collapsed in Marvin Gaye's arms and was later diagnosed with brain cancer. She passed away three years later at age 24.
Marvin Gaye's first duet album was with Mary Wells for the "Together" album in 1964. "It Takes Two" was a Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston duet that reached Number 14. "Get me to the World On Time" was the first track on side two of The Electric Prunes' debut album, "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)". The group was called The Sanctions and Jim and the Lords before they decided on The Electric Prunes. The band was selected to do some demo tracks at Leon Russell's studio and RCA's head engineer suggested a new name before they released the demos.
The band underwent numerous personnel changes before finally disbanding in 1970.
"For What It's Worth (Stop, Hey What's That Sound)" was a 1967 Top Ten from The Buffalo Springfield. The Easybeats scored a US Top Twenty with "Friday on My Mind" in 1967 and "Itchycoo Park" was a 1967 hit for Small Faces.

Cilla Black had a hit in 1965 with "You're My World". "As Tears Go By" was a Number 22 US hit from Marianne Faithfull. Shirley Bassey had a US Top Ten with the theme to the James Bond film, "Goldfinger", in 1965.

Timi Yuro released a single of "Make the World Go Away" from her eponymous 1963 debut album. Hank Cochran had composed the song the same year. Timi released "Make the World Go Away" two years before Country singer Eddy Arnold enjoyed Top Ten crossover success with the song on the Pop charts. Elvis recorded a version in 1970 for his "Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old)". Elvis also covered Timi's 1961 single "Hurt".
Timi was 21 when she had her first Top Ten US single with "Hurt". Although she possessed a powerful voice and had several other successful singles, "Hurt" would prove to be her only US Top Ten hit.

"A World Without Love" was written by Paul McCartney and attributed to the songwriting team of Lennon and McCartney. It went to the top spot in the US for Peter and Gordon. Paul McCartney did not believe the song was right for The Beatles and offered it to Billy J. Kramer.

When Kramer rejected "A World Without Love" Peter and Gordon recorded it. The original recording of Paul singing the demo is owned by Peter Asher. Paul dated Peter's sister, Jane, from 1963 to 1968. Peter was later named head of A and R for the Beatles' Apple Records label. "Five O'Clock World" was a 1965 single by The Vogues.

The Seekers had a hit with "A World of Our Own" the same year. Paul Anka had a hit with his composition called "Love Makes the World Go 'Round" in 1962 and Deon Jackson released a different song with the same title four years later.

In 1967 "The Happening" was the final Number One for The Supremes before they began being billed as Diana Ross and The Supremes. "Love Child" topped the US charts in 1968 and the following year "Someday We'll Be Together" became the final Number One for Diana Ross and The Supremes.
The group had their final performance as Diana Ross and The Supremes in 1970 in Las Vegas before Diana left to become a solo artist.
