"Please, Please, Please" was James Brown's first major release in l958. The song is about a jilted lover begging his girl not to leave. The song did very well on the R&B charts reaching number six, but could only muster a #105 placing on the pop charts.

It was re-released in 1964 and fared a little better, reaching number 95 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. Nevertheless, it sold over one million records and is listed by Rolling Stone Magazine at number 142 on their "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" compilation.

When her father found out he took away her driving privileges. Songs were much simpler then. The Beach Boys took this incident and turned it into a number five Billboard U.S. Hot 100 hit.
