A cover version by French singer Sacha Distel entered the UK chart on five separate occasions from January to August 1970. It reached number 10 on it's first re-entry in January. It was his only UK chart entry.

The song was written by Bacharach/David for the movie "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid". The movie version is different to the single version and Ray Stevens was offered the song first but turned it down. 6. Bob Dylan sang about "Rainy Day Women # __ & __", maybe he could not remember their names. What are the missing two numbers from the song title?

Answer: 12 & 35

Bob Dylan had a number two hit on the US pop chart with "Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35" in 1966. It reached number seven on the UK chart the same year.

Bob Dylan played piano in Bobby Vee's backing band. Not true! I hear you shout, oh yes he did in 1959. Only twice so that's OK, we all have to start somewhere. He had his first UK hit with "Times They Are A-Changin'" which reached number nine in 1965. It did not chart in the US. His first hit in the US was "Subterranean Homesick Blues" which reached number 39 in 1965. It reached number nine on the UK chart the same year.
7. Which "Woodstock" performer had a hit single in the UK with "The Wind Cries Mary"?

Answer: Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix had a number six hit on the UK chart with "The Wind Cries Mary" in 1967. In the US it was the B-side of "Purple Haze" and did not chart.

Hendrix had certainly been around a while before having his own success. He was in The Isley Brothers backing band, recorded with them and Little Richard. Toured with Joey Dee and The Starliters, toured and recorded with King Curtis. He met The Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham in 1966 but nothing came of it. He then met The Animals bass player Chas Chandler who was looking for acts to manage on leaving The Animals. He brought Hendrix to London signed him up and changed the spelling of his name to Jimi. His first hit on the UK chart "Hey Joe" followed in 1967 and he had five UK Top 10 hits including the number one hit "Voodoo Chile" in 1970. In his own country he only had one Top 40 hit, Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" which reached number 20 in 1968. It reached number five on the UK chart the same year. The three alternative choices to this question did not perform at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
8. Would Lou Christie be playing golf if he was trying to avoid what he is singing about in this song? Everybody knows it can't happen twice, maybe these words will help. "When I see lips beggin' to be kissed (Stop) I can't stop (Stop) I can't stop myself (Stop, stop)"

Answer: Lightnin' Strikes

Lou Christie had a number one hit for one week on the US pop chart with "Lightnin' Strikes" in 1966. It reached number 11 on the UK chart the same year.

Lou Christie did not make the US or UK Top 10 again until 1969, when "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" reached number 10 on the US chart and number two on the UK chart. Apart from three minor hits in 1970, 1974 and 1981 that was it chart-wise for Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco.
9. What was in the air, according to the Thunderclap Newman song with these lyrics? "Hand out the arms and ammo We're going to blast our way through here"

Answer: Something

Thunderclap Newman had a number one hit for three weeks on the UK chart with "Something In The Air" in 1969. It reached number 37 on the US pop chart the same year.

The group, (put together by Pete Townshend of The Who) consisted of John "Speedy" Keene who wrote the song, Andy Newman and Jimmy McCulloch, who later played in Wings. They had one more minor chart entry in 1970 on the UK chart and that was the end. The song was in the 1969 movie "The Magic Christian" starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.
10. What kind of holiday did Cliff Richard and The Shadows go on, singing these lyrics? "We're going where the sea is blue We've seen it in the movies Now let's see if it's true"

Answer: Summer

Cliff Richard And The Shadows had a number one hit on the UK chart with "Summer Holiday" in 1963. It never charted in the US.

Love him or hate him you can't ignore him and he demands respect for being around so long. His first hit was "Move it" with The Shadows. It reached number two on the UK chart in 1958. It did not chart in the US. A re-recording of "Move It" in a double A-side with "21st Century Christmas" reached number two on the UK chart in 2006. Sir Cliff is the only person to have had number one hits in five different decades on the UK chart. (Some say six decades not counting download figures but that is getting too technical for me, I'll stick with vinyl and Cd's).
