Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This band name was derived from the biblical reference "Cain will be avenged upon seven times over". Which band is this?

Answer: Avenged Sevenfold

California boys Shadows, The Rev, Christ, Synyster, and Zacky sport this Bible reference. In the story of Cain and Abel, Cain slays Abel from jealousy. The name means that Cain will be avenged upon (for slaying Abel) seven times (x) over. This makes up the abbreviation for Avenged Sevenfold, A7X (avenged seven times).
2. This band name was derived from the title of Irvine Welsh's novella, "Ecstasy". It was discovered by the bassist of which band while he worked at a Barnes & Noble?

Answer: My Chemical Romance

The full title is "Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance". Mikey Way picked up this book before the band had ever started. He thought, "Why hasn't this been used for a band name?" Soon after, My Chemical Romance was born!
3. This band wanted a random, off the wall band name. They thought in creating such a wacky name, the name would be looked over, and people would only like them for their music. Which one of the following bands thought their name was that stealth?

Answer: Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

The Jumpsuit boys have been documented saying that choosing the band name was a lazy process. They were more concerned with writing songs than in coming up with an epic, intelligent band name. They want attention for their music, not their name, but in my opinion, calling yourselves "Red Jumpsuit Apparatus" is kind of asking for attention!
4. This band chose their name once they found out it derived from the Latin saying "Unknown Lover". The name has a homonym, which means "Secret Lover". Which female-headed band chose this title?

Answer: Paramore

Paramore ("Unknown lover") was chosen by the members of the band just after they learned the homonym of the band name (paramour) meant "Secret Lover". Why it took this boost, I'm unsure. I just couldn't imagine this band with any other name!
5. This band's name isn't too significant. The creators just typed two biblical characters into Google (yes, Google) and took a phrase straight from the search results! What band did these "creative" boys start?

Answer: Saving Abel

The boys that formed this rock band merely sat down at a computer and typed "Cain and Abel" into a Google search bar. An excerpt popped up reading "there was no saving Abel". Sound familiar? "Saving Abel" was formed.
6. This punk-rock band got their name from my all-time favorite show, "The Simpsons", straight from Bart Simpson's favorite comic series, "Radioactive Man". What band name is this?

Answer: Fall Out Boy

Fallout Boy (the basis of the name Fall Out Boy) is the sidekick of Radioactive Man, a superhero on "The Simpsons". The boys in the band are all very big fans of "The Simpsons", and even recorded a version of the "Simpsons" theme song for an episode in season twenty. The country band PinMonkey also derived their name from Matt Groening's creation!
7. Some band names are just out of this world. What extra-terrestrial band name was derived straight from a former Harvard Professor's thesis?

Answer: 30 Seconds To Mars

That's right. The name "30 Seconds To Mars" actually comes from a thesis that the band found, where else, online. Sound familiar? One of the subsections of the work was titled 'thirty seconds to mars' and it talked about the exponential growth of technology that relates to humans. It said that humans are quite literally thirty seconds to mars. The band thought the theory best described their music.
8. Like Mikey Way of My Chemical Romance, the Canadian 'Mike' of this Vancouver-based band had a normal job before becoming a Rockstar. What band name was derived from Mike's overused phrase while working at Starbucks?

Answer: Nickelback

Mike Kroeger would be constantly saying "here's your nickel back" to the customers at Starbucks, long before there was a band to name. Mike Kroeger is the brother of Chad Kroeger, lead singer of Nickelback. It's good to know these boys remember where they came from!
9. This band name was derived straight from a 2002 horror flick. The band took the name from a child in the film. What is this band's name?

Answer: Aiden

Yep, Aiden. Remember the movie "The Ring" that scared the pants off of you and made you afraid of any little girl with black hair? Well, that little girl was after a little boy: Aidan. The band is from Seattle, Washington, which is where "The Ring" took place.
10. Easy one FTW: Which band name came from a childhood experience of the band drummer in which the lead singer protected him from bullies in gym at the school they attended together?

Answer: Gym Class Heroes

McCoy was McGinley's Gym Class Hero. How sweet is that? The two went to school together and apparently McGinley got picked on a lot in gym class. McCoy stood up for him, constantly defending him, and eventually they formed Gym Class Heroes!
