Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Sex Pistols released "God Save The Queen" from their 1977 album. Who was their drummer?

Answer: Paul Cook

This song was a somewhat scathing tribute to Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee.
2. "Dr Feelgood" by Motley Crue had the beats supplied by a well known drummer. Who was he?

Answer: Tommy Lee.

Tommy Lee is also known as the ex-husband of Pamela Anderson.
3. One of several singles by The Police was "Don't Stand So Close To Me"; who was their sticksman?

Answer: Stewart Copeland.

This single from the "Zenyatta Mondatta" album dealt with the rather touchy subject of the teacher/pupil relationship.
4. "Baba O'Riley" by The Who showcased the flamboyant talents of a very well known drummer; which one of these was he?

Answer: Keith Moon

Sadly, both Keith Moon and John Bonham are no longer with us.
5. Who played drums on "Fell In Love With a Girl" by The White Stripes?

Answer: Meg White

Meg is one half of The White Stripes along with Jack White. Their second album, "De Stilj" was recorded in Jack's lounge using an analog 8 track tape recorder, apparently.
6. Who provides the beats for Green Day's "Longview"?

Answer: Tre Cool

Chad Smith is from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mitch Mitchell played with The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Dave Lombardo is best known for his work with Slayer.
7. Who played with both Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age?

Answer: Dave Grohl

Brann Dailor is the drummer for Mastodon. Steve Gadd, the well known session musician, has played with Paul Simon, The Manhattan Transfer, Eric Clapton and James Taylor to name but a few.
8. Where did the beats come from on "Blue Monday" by New Order?

Answer: An Oberheim DMX drum machine.

Yes, it was a drum machine, believe it or not. At least they haven't given it a name, like "Doktor Avalanche" of The Sisters of Mercy.
9. "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder is recognisable by the opening drum break, who played it?

Answer: Stevie Wonder.

Stevie Wonder played drums (and most of the other instruments) himself on this classic from his "Talking Book" album. This album also featured guest appearances from Jeff Beck and Ray Parker Jr.
10. Finally, a drummer specific question. You can tell that a drummer is sitting upright because he drools out of both sides of his mouth.

Answer: True

Of the numerous drummer jokes going around, this has to be the oldest! Having said that, there are reports of two bronze cymbals having been discovered in China's Jiangxi Province. These cymbals are reputed to be more than 3000 years old. So, I guess, drumming is older than the jokes!
