Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Don and Phil, a 'brotherly duo', told us they were "Crying In The Rain" ?

Answer: The Everly Brothers

The song was released in December 1961. Don and Phil had been singing since they were six and eight years of age, respectively, and made a whole clatter of popular late 50's/60's hits including the wonderful " All I have To Do Is Dream" (1958) and "Cathy's Clown" (1960). Like all the greats, their music still resonates today!
2. A whole new "Crying In The Rain", only it's David Coverdale singing with this rock group. I saw them 'live' in Belfast when I was fifteen ... and I was deaf for 24 hours afterwards!

Answer: Whitesnake

The song is from the "Saints and Sinners" album (1982) and I heard them in the land of "Saints and Scholars" in 1982! That's Ireland!
3. "Trail of Tears" was sung by this country singer who had a runaway success with "Achy Breaky Heart" in 1992.

Answer: Billy Ray Cyrus

Billy Ray's "Trail of Tears" was rejected by radio, but his fans voted it their favourite single of 1996. Way to go, Billy Ray!
4. 'Elvis could sing anything' is a popular refrain from fans who love his music to death! However, this time it's not what he's singing but where?

Answer: Crying In The Chapel

There's no way Elvis couldn't draw a tear from even the driest eyes in the audience. Think of "Love Me Tender" and "In The Ghetto" and feel your blinkers go misty!
5. "Cry Me A River" has been sung by a few others but I want to know the name of the man who "Gets By With A Little Help" from his friends?

Answer: Joe Cocker

Joe was born in Sheffield, England in 1944. Before becoming mega-famous, he was an apprentice gas fitter during the day and the bow-tied Vance Arnold at night, singing with "The Avengers" in really rough Sheffield pubs and clubs!
6. Kylie Minogue had a hit with this song in 1990.

Answer: Tears On My Pillow

The first group to release "Tears On My Pillow" was 'Little Anthony and the Imperials' in 1958. It was this A-side track that launched their careers, and was their biggest-selling hit - with one million copies sold and one of the best known love songs of the 50's!
7. Madonna starred as Eva Peron .. and sang "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" on the silver screen! Is her married name now Mrs Richards?

Answer: No

Madonna was married to Guy Ritchie and was therefore Mrs Richie (although he is reported to call her Madge!) "Evita", directed by Alan Parker, has Madonna as the eponymous heroine Eva Peron (wife of President Peron) - who became one of the most powerful women in the world. After a life full of extremes, she lost the battle against uterine cancer in 1952 and died at the age of 33.
8. "No Woman No Cry" was dedicated to a very special lady in Bob Marley's life - his mother?

Answer: No

Rita Marley is Bob Marley's widow and in an interview she revealed that - " No Woman No Cry is a standard sister's song. It was meant for me but it relates to all sisters." Bob Marley died on the 11th of May 1981 of a brain tumour.
9. A 60's singer - admired by Bono of U2 among many - sang "Crying" and "Blue Bayou". Who was he?

Answer: Roy Orbison

Roy Orbison started singing in the 50's and through four decades delighted us all, or did he? Many of his songs are in keeping with the mood of this quiz, but what did the great man answer when asked if his songs were generally sad!? - " On balance, it was at least fifty-fifty... Dream Baby, Mean Woman Blues, Running Scared, even Pretty Woman has a happy ending." So there you go!
10. "Who's Cryin' Now" was running through my head when I thought of this quiz, so I'd like to know which group have left a lasting impression. Their name means 'trip' or 'long outing'.

Answer: Journey

Formed in 1973, "Journey" started off as a jazz-rock band and then altered their style considerably over the years to end up producing this terrific love song. Steve Perry was the lead singer whose voice is the inspiration for this quiz. Hope you liked it!
