"Don't Give Up On Us" was written by Tony Macaulay. It was number one for four weeks on the UK singles chart for David Soul in 1977. It was number one for one week on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year.

David Soul was born David Richard Solberg in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 1943. He attended the University of the Americas in Mexico City and the University of Minnesota. He was offered a contract to play baseball with the Chicago White Sox but chose to study political science instead. He became known as the "Covered Man" after appearances on The Merv Griffin TV Show in 1966 and 1967, on which he sang while wearing a mask. In 1967 he appeared as Dennis Blake in one episode of "Flipper" and as Makora in "The Apple", an episode of the original "Star Trek".

Of course he is most famous as one half of "Starsky and Hutch", a TV series that ran from 1975 to 1979. It starred David Soul as Kenneth Hutchinson and Paul Michael Glaser as David Michael Starsky. They were two police detectives in Bay City, California. Also starring were Antonio Fargas as police informer Huggy Bear and Bernie Hamilton as Captain Harold C. Dobey.

Julie Covington was born in London, England, in 1946. She got her big break while still a student at Homerton College, Cambridge, when she appeared on the David Frost show in 1967. She appeared in "Godspell" in 1971 and "The Rocky Horror Show" in 1973. After appearing in the two series of the TV programme "Rock Follies" in 1976 and 1977, she was offered the title role in the original studio recording of "Evita". It was originally offered to singer Elkie Brooks who turned it down.

Covington was offered the role of Eva Peron in the original stage production of "Evita" but declined and singer/actress Elaine Paige took the role instead. Covington turned down the role because she did not like Eva Peron but years later she expressed regret at her decision. She had one more hit on the UK singles chart when "Only Women Bleed" peaked at number 12 in 1977.

"When I Need You" was written by Albert Hammond/Carole Bayer Sager. It was number one for three weeks on the UK singles chart for Leo Sayer in 1977. It was number one for one week on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year.

Leo Sayer was born Gerard Hugh Sayer in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex, England, in 1948. He studied commercial art and graphic design at West Sussex College of Art and Design in Worthing, Sussex, England. In 1967 he was working as a hall porter at the King's Hotel in Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, England, he assisted in the rescue of guests from a fire that damaged the first floor of the hotel. He himself was then rescued by builders who were working on a building next to the hotel.

Sayer began his music career as a songwriter. He co-wrote "Giving It All Away" with David Courtney. Produced by singer Adam Faith, it gave Roger Daltrey of The Who a solo number five hit on the UK singles chart in 1973. It peaked at number 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year. Between 1973 and 1982 Sayer had ten UK Top Ten hits which included four number two hits. In the late '80s and early '90s he faced financial ruin after a series of legal cases against Adam Faith, Chrysalis Records and his new management. He became an Australian citizen in 2009.

Hot Chocolate formed in 1969 by Errol Brown MBE, born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1943 and Tony Wilson, born in Trinidad, in 1947. They started their recording career as the Hot Chocolate Band when signed to Apple records and released a version of "Give Peace A Chance" in 1969. It was approved by John Lennon and produced by ex-Shadows drummer Tony Meehan. Between 1970 and 1997 they had 14 Top Ten hits on the UK singles chart which included their only UK number one "So You Win Again". Their song "You Sexy Thing" reached the UK singles chart three times, it peaked at number two in 1975, number ten in 1987 (remix) and number six in 1997. Lead singer Errol Brown died from liver cancer in the Bahamas on 6 May 2015.

In the USA, between 1975 and 1979 Hot Chocolate had three Top Ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The highest chart position was gained by "You Sexy Thing" when it peaked at number three in 1976.

Between 1976 and 1989 she had 14 Top Ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 which included the four number one hits "MacArthur Park" (1978), "Hot Stuff" (1979), "Bad Girls" (1979) and "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" a duet with Barbra Streisand (1979).
