"Lady Marmalade" was first recorded by Labelle, lead by the great Patti LaBelle, in 1974 and appeared on the album "Nightbirds". It was a number one hit on US Billboard Hot R&B /Hip-Hop Songs, US Billboard Hot 100 and Canada Top Singles and Netherlands charts. Sabrina and All Saints both did covers of this song, but it was the version that was recorded for the 2001 film "Moulin Rouge!" featuring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman done by the quartet of Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink which was ultimately more successful.

It went to number one on seventeen different international charts including US Billboard Rhythmic, US Billboard Mainstream Top 40 and the US Billboard Hot 100 charts.

"Joy to the World" was recorded by Three Dog Night for their album "Naturally". It was a number one hit in South Africa, Canada and managed a top position on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was written by Hoyt Axton whose mother Mae wrote "Heartbreak Hotel" which was a number one hit for Elvis Presley in 1956. It is not only one of the greatest selling singles of all time, it was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 1972 and certified gold in the US. Incidentally, Jeremiah the bullfrog and all his wine are only mentioned in the first verse and have nothing else to do with the song at all. Axton said in an interview:

"'Jeremiah was a bullfrog.' It was meaningless. It was a temporary lyric. Before I could rewrite it, they cut it and it was a hit"

The version of "Elvira" recorded by The Oak Ridge Boys for the album "Fancy Free" was the second one recorded, but was by far the more successful. It went to top position on the US Cash Box Top 100 and US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. The song was written by Dallas Frazier and recorded for his début album of the same name in 1966. Frazier's version only went to position seventy-two on US Billboard chart.

In an interview with the Country Music Hall of Fame, Frazier said that he noticed a street sign named Elvira and thought, "What a funky name that is," Frazier recalled. "Some names are earthy and make great fodder for songwriters."
