Answer: William II and Henry I

William II reigned 1087-1100 and was shot in the New Forest, and Henry I reigned 1100-1135 and died of eating 'a surfeit of lampreys'!
(A lamprey is a kind of eel).
2. Who was monarch in 1200?

Answer: John

John reigned 1199-1216, so just made it into this question! He is probably best known for signing the Great Charter (Magna Carta) in 1215 at Runnymede near Windsor.
3. Who was king in 1300?

Answer: Edward I

Edward I reigned 1272-1307, the famed "Hammer of the Scots", as he beat them back into Scotland. Also, concentric (circular, thick- walled) castles are associated with him. He called the first official parliament (the Model Parliament) in 1295. Well done to those who spotted that Aethelred reigned about 300 years earlier!

Answer: Henry IV

Henry IV reigned 1399-1413. It was widely believed that he played a part in the death or murder of his predecessor, Richard II. The year 1400 also saw the death of Geoffrey Chaucer.

Answer: Henry VII

Henry VII reigned 1485-1509, after defeating Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field. This victory placed the House of Tudor on the throne and ended the War of the Roses.

Answer: Elizabeth I

Elizabeth I reigned 1558-1603, and never married, so James VI of Scotland brought together the kingdoms of Scotland and England in 1603 in a personal union. Her 44-year reign (1558-1603) brought peace in religion after a lengthy period of violence and turbulence. The Elizabethan Age also saw literature and the arts flourish in England.
7. Who was monarch in 1700?

Answer: William III

William III reigned 1688-1702, and was Dutch and died when his horse tripped over a mole-hole and threw him off. For the first few years of his reign, until her death in 1694, he ruled jointly with Queen Mary. Their reign saw the passing of the (English) Bill of Rights in 1689.
8. Who was monarch in 1800?

Answer: George III

George III reigned from 1760-1820, and famously went insane in his old age. By the end of his long reign Britain was industrializing rapidly.
9. Who was monarch in 1900?

Answer: Victoria

Victoria reigned for 63 years from 1837 to 1901, and died at Osborne House, nearly 40 years after her husband, Albert.

Answer: Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II had reigned since 6th February 1952. King Charles III monarch on 8th September 2022, upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
