Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many of Manson's followers were at the Tate residence on the night that Sharon Tate was murdered?

Answer: four

Originally Manson wanted to send in ten followers to do the killings but changed his mind and decided to send only four.
2. How many people did Manson's followers kill at the Tate residence?

Answer: five

Unbeknownst to the killers, William Garretson, the grounds keeper, was hiding in the guest house. Had the killers known this he too surely would have been killed.
3. What was the date of the Tate murders?

Answer: August 9, 1969

Originally Manson wanted to send his followers out on August 12, 1969 but he changed his mind when he heard through various family members that there was to be a raid on Spahn Ranch that particular morning. If the sheriff's department did raid the ranch, then Manson knew his murderous plans would not succeed.
4. On what date in August of 1969 did Manson go into the Labianca Residence before sending in his followers?

Answer: August 10, 1969

This is not widely known about Manson, but on that particular night he had plans himself for murdering the LaBiancas, but once inside, he saw how large Mr. LaBianca was, and he decided to let his murderous crew do his dirty work.
5. On the day that Manson's trial started for the Tate and Labianca Murders, what if anything did Manson have on his forehead?

Answer: An X

This was done in a ploy to call off the trial, the judge said that Manson and his followers would not benefit from this. The motion for mistrial requested by his attorney was denied. The prosecutor for the case wrote a book entitled 'Helter Skelter'. He was so shocked that someone would carve an 'X' on their forehead, he decided that it was something worth mentioning about Manson, so he added into the book. Later, Manson was to extend it to a swastika.
6. What is the name of the book that was written by the prosecutor who successfully tried and convicted Charles Manson?

Answer: Helter Skelter

Vincent Bugliosi wrote this book in an effort to try and give some answers as to how Manson used his controlling ways on his followers and to let society beware that there are still people like Manson out there in the world.
7. What was the first name of the 80 year old man that allowed Manson and his followers to live at his ranch?

Answer: George

The only reason Manson moved his followers to this place was because the owner of the Ranch, Mr. George Spahn was 80 yrs. old and blind. He designated one of his followers, Lynette Fromme (a.k.a Squeaky), to take care of him. With this in mind Manson hoped that when Spahn died he would leave everything to Squeaky. Mr. Spahn's family had other ideas.
8. What is the name of the album that Manson said the Beatles were talking to him through?

Answer: The White Album

Manson really believed that the Beatles wanted him to start this race war, and that once he did this they would come over from England to be with him and his family in the bottomless pit!
9. What type of musical instrument did Manson play?

Answer: guitar

While in prison in 1961, Manson learned how to play the guitar from Alvin Carpis, the lone survivor of the Ma Barker Gang. Manson always used people to his advantage and tried to learn as much as he could without giving anything in return.
10. In 1967, what did Manson beg authorities not to do when he was about to be released from prison?

Answer: Not to let him out of prison

If the prison authorities had heeded his advice Sharon Tate and her friends, along with the LaBiancas, would never have been murdered and the book 'Helter Skelter' would have never been written.
