Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Marx Brothers were perhaps the movie industry's first famous family, but who was the eldest brother?

Answer: Chico

Leonard "Chico" Marx was the first of the performing Marx Brothers to be born, on March 22 1887 (A sixth brother, Mannie, was born in 1886, but died before any of the others were born). He began his showbiz career as a pianist, and would often double book himself to bring in extra money for the family, as at an early age Harpo and Chico looked so similar that they were often mistaken for one another!
2. The Williams Sisters are the foremost siblings in world tennis, but it is not as well known that British tennis player Andy Murray has an older, tennis playing brother. What is his name?

Answer: Jamie

Jamie, a doubles specialist, is a year older than Andy. He was the first of the brothers to win a Wimbledon title, as he won the 2007 mixed doubles with Jelena Jankovic. The two brothers competed together in the 2008 Olympic Tennis Tournament. However, after beating the Canadian pairing of Frédéric Niemeyer and Daniel Nestor, they were defeated by the 2007 Wimbledon champions, Arnaud Clément and Michaël Llodra, representing France.
3. What is the name of the Scottish band that consists of a pair of twin brothers?

Answer: The Proclaimers

Charlie and Craig Reid, otherwise known as "The Proclaimers", were born in Leith, a suburb of Edinburgh, in 1962. They are famous for such songs as "Letter From America", "I'm on My Way", a song which featured on the soundtrack of the 2001 film "Shrek", and "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", which was recorded a second time with comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas (playing the role of Andy Pipkin) for Comic Relief in March 2007. A host of celebrities were included in the video, including David Bellamy, Paul O'Grady, and David Tennant.

Interestingly, the three members of "The Fratellis" have all adopted stage names with the surname "Fratelli", but are not related to each other.
4. From looking at their names, one would not think that the sons of actor Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez are related; however they are indeed brothers! But which of them changed their name to work professionally?

Answer: Charlie Sheen

Martin Sheen, born Ramon Estevez, and his wife Janet Templeton really produced some talented offspring! As well as Charlie, who was born with the name "Carlos", and Emilio, Renee and Ramon Estevez are also well known actors in their own right, though they have encountered considerably less success than their brothers.

In their youth, the Estevez children also mixed with illustrious siblings- they were often seen making short films with Sean and Chris Penn and Chad and Rob Lowe- films which were often written by Emilio.
5. What is the name of the younger sister of Britney Spears, the singer who famously announced that she would remain a virgin until marriage, who found herself pregnant at age 16?

Answer: Jamie Lynn Spears

Born in Mississippi in 1991, Jamie Lynn Spears announced that she was pregnant by her then boyfriend Casey Aldridge on December 20 2007, at the age of 16- two years below the age of consent in California, where she was living and working at the time. Their child, Maddie Briann Aldridge, was born on June 19 2008, however Spears ended the relationship just 19 months later.
6. The relationship between the first two brothers, Cain and Abel, ended in murder. Which brother committed the murder?

Answer: Cain

Cain and Abel were the children of Adam and Eve, and their story is detailed in Genesis 4 of the bible and in Sura 5 of the Qur'an, as Qabil and Habil. In the bible, Cain kills Abel because he is more favoured by God, and is then banished to the Land of Nod.

The story is much the same in the Qur'an, however it goes into more detail, describing how Cain is prompted to bury the body of his brother by a raven scratching at the ground, who he believes is sent by God. According to Shi'a Muslims, Abel is buried in a mosque west of Damascus, Syria.
7. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher formed the Britpop group "Oasis" in 1991, and went on to achieve international success together before the group split in 2009. What was the original name of the group?

Answer: The Rain

The group originally comprised of Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar), Tony McCarroll (drums), and were soon joined by Liam's older brother Noel (vocals and lead guitar). Before Noel left the band after a backstage fight with his younger brother, Oasis produced eight UK number one singles and seven UK number one albums.

They also received 15 NME awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Awards, and six BRIT Awards (and a partridge in a pear tree).
8. Shakespeare's plays are full of sibling rivalry, but in which play do half-brothers Edmund and Edgar appear?

Answer: King Lear

Edmund and Edgar are both sons of the Earl of Gloucester, however Edmund is illegitimate. This rivalry is perhaps second in the play to the rivalry of Lear's three daughters: Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia, who at the beginning of the play have to flatter their father to inherit their portion of his kingdom, however Cordelia speaks honestly and bluntly, and so is disowned by the King.
9. The Jackson 5 were one of pop music's biggest phenomena in the 1970's. We all know that Michael was the youngest, but which of these is the correct age order of the original 5 (before Randy replaced Jermaine)?

Answer: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Michael

The Jackson Five were responsible for some of the 1970's biggest hits, including "I Want You Back", "ABC", and "I'll Be There". When the group left the Motown record label in 1975, they were forced to change their name to "The Jacksons", and sixth brother Randy replaced Jermaine, who opted to remain with Motown rather than move to CBS.
10. American acting twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen missed their prom because they were involved with which popular TV show?

Answer: Saturday Night Live

The Olsen twins started in television extremely early, as they appeared in "Full House" in 1987, at the the age of just nine months! They were extremely popular figures in the pre-teen market during the late 1990's and early 2000's, and as such earned a place on the Forbes "Celebrity 100 List" in 2002, and were, collectively, the 11th richest women in entertainment in 2007, with an estimated wealth of $100 million.
