Jack Dempsey held the heavyweight boxing title from 1919-1926. He was commissioned in the Coast Guard in June 1942 and mainly assigned to morale and physical fitness duties. He did serve in the CG-manned USS Arthur Middleton for the invasion of Okinawa.
