Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's kick off with a figure from the sporting world. This person is a retired soccer player, and while still in the game was a Manchester United icon for nearly two decades and has earned 106 caps for the English national team. Could it be easier? Probably not. So who am I talking about?

Answer: Sir Bobby Charlton

Sir Robert Charlton played as an attacking midfielder. He appeared 606 times, scoring 199 goals during his tenure with the red devils of Manchester (1956- 1973). I may add that he scored 49 goals for the English national team. He has received 4 royal honours from his country's government, most notably the one of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1974.

He's still linked to Manchester United, having been a member of the board of directors ever since 1984. None of the other options included bald persons. Bobby Moore was a defender and West Ham symbol from 1958 to 1974. Peter Shilton was a quality goalkeeper which represented the English national team on 125 occasions from 1970 to 1990.

As for Billy Wright, he was a loyal centre half for Wolverhampton Wanderers, playing for the side from 1939-1959.

It was the only team he represented in his entire career.
2. "In the Air Tonight" - does that ring any bells for you? No? Let me help, solo hit for Phil Collins. However he had already met success previously by taking part in the rock group Genesis. Not only was he a singer for them, he's also well known for playing an instrument on stage. But which?

Answer: Drums

Collins retired in early 2011 due to health problems and wanting to spend more time with his family. During his solo career phase he had 7 number one singles in the US, with surprisingly (or not) "In The Air Tonight" not being one of them. It only went as high as #19 in the American charts.

It was #1 in many other countries, however, such as New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany and Austria.
3. Which religious figure would you most readily associate with the theme for this quiz?

Answer: St. Francis of Assisi

Francis of Assisi was the founder of the Franciscan Order. He was canonized on the 16th of July 1228 by Pope Gregory IX, only two years after his death. In 2013 the new Pope chose Francis as his papal name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. All of the other religious figures given as possible answers are well known for having had long hair.
4. One of the best known "tough" names from the silver screen is Bruce Willis. In which American state was he born?

Answer: None, he was actually born in West Germany.

His mother was German and his father an American soldier deployed to Germany. He only lived briefly there however (2 years), since his family moved to the US as soon as his father as discharged from the military. Despite being a worldwide known actor, Bruce Willis has yet to win an Academy Award.
5. Domestic reforms such as Glasnost and Perestroika were introduced by the famous Soviet leader Josef Stalin, also known for his lack of hair.

Answer: False

Those reforms actually belong to another Soviet politician of worldwide fame, Mikhail Gorbachev. The idea for the Perestroika came to be in 1986, while 1988 would see the introduction of the Glasnost. Mikhail Gorbachev would be President of the Soviet Union for a short while only however, with his time in office lasting from March 1990 to December 1991.

The Soviet Union was then dissolved and Russia came to be. Along with Lenin, Dictator Josef Stalin is the best known Soviet statesman of all time but was from an era different than that of Gorbachev.

Another his notable feature was his mustache and ample hair.
6. Which retired footballer born on the 28th of August 1974 in Grevesmühlen was well known for not only for his shiny bald head, but also for his height and strength? He played most notably for teams such as Bayern München and Udinese.

Answer: Carsten Jancker

Grevesmühlen is in northern Germany, so you could only really go with two options in here if you knew this. The other German is Stefan Effenberg, who's also played notably for Bayern München but in Italy only for Fiorentina. He's also quite a few years older (born 1968), smaller and played as defensive midfielder. Ludovic Magning is a retired player but from Switzerland, being noted for playing with German side Stuttgart.

As for Thomas Gravesen, another retiree, he played most famously for Everton and is Danish. Lastly, Carsten Jancker still went on to play in other countries such as Austria and China and was capped 33 times, scoring 10 goals for the German national team.

He retired in 2009.
7. Remember the 90s and the late 90's most particularly? Then you'll remember that "Barbie Girl" was a hit-song in many countries. Aqua was the band behind it and their male vocalist is yet another baldie you may have a recollection of. From which country did this band originate?

Answer: Denmark

That's right, they came from "Lego land". The main vocalist, Lene Nystrøm, is Norwegian however. René Dif is the baldie mentioned in the question. The band was active from 1996 to 2001, year in which it entered a hiatus. Apparently, they returned in 2007 but not with the same success as in the late 90's.

Other well known hits from their debut album were titles such as "My, Oh My" and "Doctor Jones".
8. Now it's time for a question about someone who can actually play an instrument and therefore be rightfully called as a musician. I want you to tell me what is the name of the bald drummer from American metal band Machine Head. Which is it?

Answer: Dave McClain

McClain has been the drummer for the quartet ever since 1995. He joined the band upon the departure of Chris Kontos, which happened shortly after the release of their debut album "Burn My Eyes". Dave McClain was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and has previously played with various acts, including the thrash metallers Sacred Reich.

As said, Chris Kontos left the band in 1995. He was only with them for a year. He has played for many bands ever since his departure, most notably and consistently with Attitude Adjustment. All possible answers have been drummers for Machine Head. Walter Ryan was a brief live replacement in-between the departure of Kontos and arrival of McClain. Tony Constanza was the original drummer, having played with the band from 1992 to 1994.
9. Saint Thomas Aquinas was an Italian friar, priest, philosopher and theologian. I'm certain you must have heard of him. To which Roman Catholic religious order did he belong?

Answer: Dominican

He was born on the 28th January of 1225 in Roccasecca, in the Aquino county. "Aquinas" is actually the demonym of his home town. Among his most well known works are "Summa Theologica" and the "Summa contra Gentiles". He was canonized on the 18th of July 1323 by Pope John XXII in Avignon, 49 years after his death. Of all the other possible answers the one he most definitely couldn't have belonged to was the Jesuit one, since it was only established in 1540.
10. Described as "short, stocky and slow-witted", which actor played the bald man character of George Costanza, that provided us with years of laughter through the 90s in the sitcom "Seinfeld"?

Answer: Jason Alexander

Born Jay Scott Greenspan on the 23rd of September (we share a birthday, yay) of 1959, Jason Alexander is not only an actor as also he is a director, producer, writer, singer and comedian. He's also noted for having appeared in numerous Broadway musicals over the years, going as far as winning a Tony Award for the performance in one of such. Jerry Seinfeld is of course, the co-creator of the show and main protagonist. Michael Richards played the role of Cosmo Kramer. Art Vandelay (don't chuckle) was only one of his many aliases used on the show, perhaps even the one that's known best.
11. I'm enjoying this 90's memory lane trip, so let's proceed. Remember "The Jerry Springer Show"? Good. Now, do you remember when the audience started shouting "Steve" repeatedly and the director of security of the show Steve Wilkos walked on to stage and intervened in the action? What if I told you that this well-built bald man got so popular that he's got his own talk show named after himself ... would that be a true or false statement?

Answer: True

That's right, the show debuted on the 10th of September 2007 and is still on air. It's very similar in format style to the "Jerry Springer Show" actually, which is also still going strong. Being on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean I kind of wonder which show is doing best in terms of audience. Maybe one of you Americans taking this quiz will tell me.
12. A man of literature next. Not a full blown "baldie", just half bald. A communist and famed writer that went to be the recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature. Haven't got there yet? I am talking about José Saramago obviously. He authored of a number of novels, perhaps most notably "Blindness" (that went to be adapted into a movie in 2008, starring Julianne Moore and Danny Glover among others) but where did he die in exile in 2010?

Answer: Lanzarote

He resided there until his death due to self-imposed "political censorship" reasons on his work, even though decades had passed since the fall of Salazar. He died at the age of 87 and his final novel was "Caim". If I'm not mistaken, "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ", another of his noted novels, is now mandatory reading for every student in Portugal up until the 12th grade (last one before university). About the other possible answer options, Fuerteventura is another of the Canary Islands group, while Madeira and Porto Santo belong to the Portuguese Archipelago of Madeira.
13. Were you a child in the 90's? It might help in this question if so. Remember that clown that haunted you in your dreams? Yep, Pennywise. This partially bald, nightmare inducing character was taken from the novel "It" by Stephen King. But what I want to know is who played him in the miniseries version?

Answer: Tim Curry

I suppose he did an outstanding job. Or the make-up/characterization team did so for him. Perhaps a most fair assessment would be that lived up to expectation. Either way, Tim Curry will always be associated with playing villain characters. Tim Reid was also on "It" but played the adult version of character Mike Hanlon. Tim Allen, however, is better known for his comedy-related roles, like the one he played on the sitcom "Home Improvement". Finally, Tim Daly is perhaps best known for his role on the sitcom "Wings".
14. I guess that if there's at least one thing Italian dictator Benito Mussolini couldn't complain at the time of his horrible death was being dragged by his hair, since he had close to none. Anyway, with this question I want to test your knowledge of his nickname. Il Duce - that would have been too easy. I want to know instead how you'd translate that into English.

Answer: The leader

This title was coined in 1925 by the man himself and held until his death. The term had been used before by the King of Italy and Albanians (as well as Emperor of Ethiopia) Victor Emmanuel III in 1915 but with a slight difference to it: "Duce Supremo", which would translate into "Supreme Leader". Similar terms to "Duce" used in the past are Caudillo (Spain and Latin America), Conducãtor (Romania), Doge (Venice and Genoa) and Führer (Germany, obviously used by Adolf Hitler).

The dictator of North Korea also calls himself the "Supreme Leader".
15. Back to soccer. Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima sounds familiar? That's right, "stocky" striker that plays for teams such as Barcelona, Inter and Real Madrid among others. Dubbed "the phenomenon" by popular demand. What's the country of origin from this formerly (seems he has some hair now) shiny headed player?

Answer: Brazil

Hope that you didn't mix up with Cristiano Ronaldo. Aside from the mentioned teams, Ronaldo has also played for Cruzeiro, PSV, Milan and played his final years with Brazilian side Corinthians (that's right, named after The Bible Book). He was capped 98 times for his country, averaging more than a goal per game (with a total of 62).

He was unfortunate with the serious injury he sustained while with Inter Milan, since otherwise he could have been much greater than he turned out to be in the end. But maybe some of you, like me, prefer to keep the memory of him as a player just like it was before the injury.
16. Which member from the German industrial metal band Rammstein is the one who most quickly would need to wear a wig if one day it was determined by law that "no bald people would be allowed to live in the world anymore"?

Answer: Oliver Riedel

Let's hope for his sake and of all baldies that no "bald hating" dictator arises in the world for the next few decades. Oliver Riedel plays the bass and teamed up with underrated Berlin-based band The Inchtabokatables before joining the German industrial giants. Flake (Christian Lorenz) plays the keyboard and was part of Feeling B previously. Till Lindemann is the vocalist and although he sported no hair during the Mutter tour that's enough to cut it.

He too played briefly with Feeling B and First Arsch. Finally Christoph Schneider is the energetic drummer of the band and has too played very briefly with Feeling B and Die Firma.
17. In a distant future I will preside over an Emmy's ceremony, I'm telling you. I will only admit bald singers into the event however, so with which of these vocalists you wouldn't have a chance to chat with at the party afterwards?

Answer: Britney Spears

Though she had her much publicized "meltdown" during which she shaved her head completely Britney has since gone to let her hair grow to standard length for a female. The other three are famous "baldies". Michael Stipe was the vocalist for R.E.M. until 2011. Moby has been a solo performer in the electronica genre ever since 1982, having only achieved significant fame in 1999 though.

As for Billy Corgan, he has provided lead vocals and guitar for the band The Smashing Pumpkins ever since 1988.
18. The 14th and current Dalai Lama has been a notorious bald-headed figure to the world ever since he was enthroned in the year 1950. What's his actual name though?

Answer: Tenzin Gyatso

Alternative spelling Tenzing Gyatso, if you will. He was born in 1935 and recognised as the future Dalai Lama very early on during 1937. All of the other options consist of previous Dalai Lamas. Thubten Gyatso was the 13th Dalai Lama and the Tenzin's predecessor.

He reigned from the 31st of July 1879 to the 17th December 1933. Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso was the 5th Dalai Lama and reigned from 1642 to 1682. Last but by no means least, Gendup Drup was the 1st Dalai Lama. His title was only conferred posthumously though.

The same goes for the 2nd Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso. Only the 3rd Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso, was the first to actually be enthroned.
19. This quiz wouldn't be complete without one of the most notorious "baldies" of the silver screen. Sir Patrick Stewart. Best known for playing the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in various Star Trek films, he also is a talented voice actor, in fact giving life to one of the best characters in the adult animated series "American Dad!". Which character is that?

Answer: Avery Bullock

And he has done a wonderful job at that ever since 2005. Avery Bullock is the Deputy Director of the CIA and boss of the main character, Stan Smith. Principal Brian Lewis is the insanely hilarious principal of Pearl Bailey High School and is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. Schmuely "Snot" Lonstein is Steve's best friend and the punchline for many Jewish-related jokes. Voiced by Curtis Armstrong.

As for Captain Monty, he is a parody of James Lipton and is voiced by Matt McKenna.
20. Tell me whether I'm associating the correct bald comedian to this list: "Robin Hood: Men in Tights", "The Nutty Professor", "Con Air", "Blue Streak" and "Half Baked" - Dave Chappelle.

Answer: Yes

And of course, more famously "Chappelle's Show" which lasted for three seasons from 2003 to 2006. Born David Khari Webber Chappelle on the 24th of August 1973 in Washington DC, he's received high praise for a long time. As well as being a comedian, he's also a screenwriter, actor and a television and film producer. Influences known/cited range from Mel Blanc to Robin Williams.
21. Who am I? Try to guess. Psychologist. Born on the 1st of September 1950 in Oklahoma, I am a host of a talk show that's been on air ever since the later half of the year 2002. My wife Robin makes regular appearances/cameos on it. If I could take three things with me to the imaginary "Guess Who I Am, I Don't Want To Be Stranded On This Island" television show, I'd choose my bald head, my moustache and my heavy accent. Got there?

Answer: Dr. Phil

Born Phillip Calvin McGraw, he first gained notoriety thanks to his appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the late 1990s. Dr. Drew Pinsky is also a television personality and for his reality television show "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew". "Doctor Khumalo" is a retired South African soccer player.

He played from 1987-2002, most notably for South African side Kaizer Chiefs (no, not the band, that one you spell with an "s") and the South African national team. He was capped 50 times and scored 9 goals with the later.

His position was midfielder. Lastly, Dr. Martens isn't even a person. You may know it better as "Doc Martens". That's right, footwear. The brand is British and was most popular from the 70's to the 90's.
22. Who am I? Try to guess. Actor. Born on the 25th of May 1963 in Ontario, Canada. I'm mainly known thanks to roles in films such as "Wayne's World", "Austin Powers", "Shrek", and "The Cat in the Hat". I've also been a recurring member of sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live". In "Austin Powers" I even went to double-role and also performed as my main character's nemesis, a very short and bald villain that went by the name of Dr. Evil. Got there?

Answer: Mike Myers

Born Michael John Myers, he also has British and American citizenship. Influences range from Peter Sellers to John Cleese. Besides being an actor, he's also a comedian, film producer, screenwriter and singer. As for the other options, Kevin Spacey was born on the 26th of July 1959 in New Jersey and has won a couple of Academy Awards for his roles in films like "The Usual Suspects" (Best Supporting Actor) and "American Beauty" (Best Actor). Dan Aykroyd is a fellow Ontarian and was born on the 1st of July 1952.

He's also an actor. As well as a comedian, screenwriter and singer (of The Blues Brothers fame). You might remember him from his role in "Ghostbusters". Lastly, Chevy Chase was born on the 8th of October 1943 in New York. He's a writer, comedian and actor (both in television and film).

He has hosted the Academy Awards twice.
23. Who am I? Try to guess. Politician, born on the 14th October 1890 in Denison, Texas. I was the 34th President of the United States, in office 1953-1961. I was a respected general as well. I passed away on the 28th of March 1968 in Washington DC. I was a Republican and I guess you couldn't say voluptuous hair was one of my most characteristic features. Got there?

Answer: Dwight D. Eisenhower

Born Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower, he served his country in WWI and again in WWII, when he became Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces. He was the man behind Operation Torch, for instance. I'd say he ranks highly within the American public opinion as far as presidents go. All of the other options were former Presidents of the United States of America as well. Richard Nixon was the 37th was in office from 1969-1974.

He was a Republican as well. John F. Kennedy was the successor of Eisenhower and therefore the 35th President.

He was a Democrat. Lastly, Gerald Ford was Nixon's successor and therefore the 38th President of the United States of America. He was a Republican and was in power for less than three years.
24. Who am I? Try to guess. Football (Soccer for you Americans) manager. Born on the 7th of March 1959 in Certaldo, Italy. I've been the manager of Zenit Saint Petersburg ever since 2009. Before that I managed teams such as Roma, Empoli and Udinese. My shiny head is a distinguishing feature of my physiognomy. Maybe that's why they like me so much despite not having been a brilliant player when younger. Got there?

Answer: Luciano Spalletti

Spalletti had a playing career lasting from 1978 to 1993. Nothing brilliant as stated previously, however. He played as a midfielder and represented teams such as Entella, Spezia, Viareggio and Empoli. He only scored 13 goals in his entire career. All the other options are managers as well.

Neil Lennon has been the manager of Celtic ever since 2010. He played for the team previously from 2000 to 2007. International-wise, he represented the Northern Ireland national team, amounting 40 caps and 2 goals. Nevio Scala was a famous manager specially in the 90's. He hasn't managed a team since 2004 (Spartak Moscow). He's well remembered for his years with Italian-side Parma and the Germans of Borussia Dortmund. As a player this Italian hasn't achieved much, having played the most games for modest Italian team Foggia. Finally, Carlos Bianchi. He became, for the 3rd time in his life, the manager of Boca Juniors in 2013. His previous tenures lasted from 1998 to 2006. He's also managed Roma and Atlético Madrid but without much success. As a player he scored many goals for Vélez Sársfield through the 70s and 80s. He represented the Argentinian national team 14 times, getting 7 goals scored during that period.
25. Who am I? Try to guess. Musician. Born on the 3rd of June 1964 in Los Angeles, California. I play the guitar. I have more hair on my chin than I have on my head. I am one of the co-founders of the band Slayer, having been playing with them ever since 1981. Come on, you can't fail this. Who am I?

Answer: Kerry King

Born Kerry Ray King, he's also made guest appearances with acts such as The Beastie Boys, Pantera and Hatebreed, among others. All of the other options were members of Slayer. Tom Araya has been the band's lead vocalist and bass player ever since 1981 as well. Dave Lombardo was also there when it all started but as a drummer. His first stint lasted from the forming year to 1992.

He joined again in 2002, leaving again in 2013. I guess once could say that, planned or unplanned, he's really into 12 year stints, heh. Lastly, the late Jeff Hanneman was the other co-founder of the band along with King. He played the guitar for the band from its inception to till his death in May 2013. The cause of death was liver failure.
