Marie-Antoinette was born in Austria, and was christened Maria-Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsburg-Lothringen! On her marriage to France's dauphin, she was renamed Marie-Antoinette Josèphe Jeanne de Habsbourg-Lorraine.

Marie-Antoinette lived in the Palace of Versailles in France, about 16 kilometres south of Paris. The French royal family had left the Louvre for Versailles in the reign of Louis XIV. (The Louvre is now an art museum which holds Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting, the Mona Lisa).

The British royal family lives in Buckingham Palace, and as a child, Marie-Antoinette's and her family spent most of their time living (relatively) informally at Schoenbrunn, then just outside Vienna.

She had four children. They were called Marie-Thérèse Charlotte, Louis Joseph Xavier François, Louis-Charles and Sophie Hélène Béatrice de France. Her younger son, Louis-Charles was killed in prison at the age of 10 during the French Revolution. Marie-Thérèse Charlotte lived on, living in England and Austria.

There is no evidence that she ever uttered this phrase, although it is often associated with her. Some people believe that it was King Louis XIV's aunt that first said it. However, Marie-Antoinette was unpopular and an easy target for hostile propaganda.
