2. "The Great American Novel" was a moniker given to one of the works I produced. This particular novel included the characters Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Which author am I?

Answer: Mark Twain

Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens who was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835. Samuel's birth coincided with Halley's Comet and he predicted that his death would come with the comet's next reappearance. He died the day after Halley's Comet appeared in the night sky, April 21, 1910.

Answer: John Steinbeck

John was born February 27, 1902 in Salinas Valley, California. He loved Salinas Valley so much he wrote a novel about it, called "East of Eden". He has used many things from his childhood as inspiration for his works, one such example being a pony he received when he was 4 years old.

He named her Jill and she inspired his penning of the short stories called "The Red Pony". The novel "The Grapes of Wrath" was published in April, 1939. Its popularity was immediate and spread like wild fire. Just 10 short months later 430,000 copies had been printed. John Steinbeck died at the age of 66 in his home on December 20, 1968.

Answer: J.K. Rowling

Joanne Rowling's most popular series, which shot her to international fame, is the "Harry Potter" series. Joanne was not given a middle name so she used her grandmother's name, Kathleen, for the initials of her pen name J.K. Rowling. The fourth book in the "Harry Potter" series ("Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire") became the fastest selling book in history.

The sixth volume in the series had the largest launch in publishing history ever, selling 6.9 million copies in the U.S. in its first 24 hours.

The "Harry Potter" series has made Joanne the thirteenth wealthiest woman in Britain. The book "The Cuckoo's Calling" was written under the pen name Robert Galbraith and was geared towards adults. My favorite quote of Joanne's is "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."
7. What bestselling author is responsible for the novel with the character of Robert Langdon? Its film adaptation, starring Tom Hanks, was the second highest grossing movie in 2006.

Answer: Dan Brown

Daniel Brown writes a fast paced thriller usually set in a 24 hour period involving treasure hunts, code breaking, and conspiracy theories. He has had three of his novels made into movies and sold over three million copies of his books. His father, a professor of mathematics, instilled in Dan his love for puzzles.

At Christmas time he and his siblings would get treasure maps with clues and codes to lead them to their Christmas gifts, which were hidden about the house or even around the town they lived in.

He dabbled in music for a while after college and made a song tract entitled "Happy Frogs". He made a CD titled "Angels & Demons". When he later wrote a novel with the same title, he used the same ambigram as the CD. He was inspired to write books in the thriller genre after reading a book called "The Doomsday Conspiracy" by Sidney Sheldon.
8. I am known as "The Master of Horror" and I've written "The Running Man" and "Carrie". Who am I?

Answer: Stephen King

Stephen King wrote the 304 page novel entitled "The Running Man" in only ten days. His first novel "The Long Walk" was written while he was still in college and was turned down by Bennett Cerf/Random House. He filed the book away and didn't try to have it printed again for many years and when he did, he used the pen name Richard Bachman.

His wife, Tabitha, is credited with saving "Carrie" from the trash can. Stephen had started to write it but didn't like how it was developing, so he threw it away. Tabitha found it in the trash, read it and encouraged Stephen to continue writing the story.

The Kings live in Bangor, Maine and have a front gate shaped like a spider web with bats at the top of the gate.

James Paul Czajkowski, better known by his pen name James Rollins, was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 20, 1961. He moved to Sacramento, California and started his own veterinary practice after finishing college. As a hobby, he would write short stories during his lunch hours.

His veterinary practice was hard work and long hours and he had little time for his other passions, so he decided to write full time and give up his veterinary clinic. James enjoys scuba diving and spelunking and as a result, infuses many of his stories with underground caves or underwater locations.

His novels are fast pace thrillers with action, adventure and mystery.

He gave up practising law after his writing career took off, but in 1996 he went back to court to represent the family of a railroad worker that was killed while on the job. He won the case for his clients and they received a settlement of $683,500 - the largest award in his entire legal career. Grisham has sold over 275 million copies of his books and eight of them have been made into movies.

He is one of only three authors that can boast selling two million copies on a first printing.

A Grisham quote which is packed full of good advice is, "Jesus preached more and taught more about helping the poor and the sick and the hungry than he did about heaven and hell. Shouldn't that tell us something?"
