Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We start in a state capital, where we visit the famous Sunken Gardens before learning about the solar system at Mueller planetarium, situated at the university. Our tour guide is an English actor named Andrew, but what is his surname?

Answer: Lincoln

Lincoln's beautiful sunken gardens are situated on the site of an old refuse dump and were turned into gardens, originally as a work project for unemployed men during the Great Depression of the 1930s. An incredible amount of work goes into maintaining this space, and each year, the floral display of over 30,000 plants is redesigned to reflect a different theme.
The Mueller planetarium opened in 1958, thanks to Ralph Mueller, inventor of the alligator clip, used to connect cables to batteries. It can be found at Morrill Hall, on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Andrew Lincoln has appeared in many movies and TV shows, but is probably best known for his portrayal of Rick Grimes in "The Walking Dead" (2010-18).
2. What's this? An Aussie tour guide to tell us about this city. Maybe she can't get us into NASA's Mission Control Center, but she can show us the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, which seems fitting as Marguerite was a champion rower. What is her surname though?

Answer: Houston

Houston is a beautiful city with some amazing architecture including the Bank of America Center and the JP Morgan Chase Tower, which on its completion in 1981 became the tallest five sided building in the world.
The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park includes a 64 feet (20 metres) tall, semi-circular, sculptural fountain set in parkland which is a popular spot for residents and visitors alike,
Marguerite Houston is a Queensland native who is a double world champion, winning the lightweight quad-scull rowing class in 2002 and 2007.
3. We stay in the same state to visit our next city, where Northern Irish footballer Stuart will tell us of a terrible event that occurred here on 22nd November 1963. What is Stuart's last name?

Answer: Dallas

With attractions to interest every kind of visitor, from the Zero Gravity Amusement Park, to the Holocaust Museum, Dallas is a great place to visit, although sadly will always be remembered for that fateful day when JFK was assassinated. There are several tourist attractions which help keep the memory of that day alive, from guided tours of his motorcade route to a museum on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, from where Lee Harvey Oswald fired. Stuart Dallas is a winger who has represented his country many times.

He began his career with Crusaders in Northern Ireland before moving to England, playing for Brentford before signing for Leeds United in 2015.
4. After a long flight, we touch down in a new country and are met by an English motor racer. He will show us the exhibits at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and then take us for a picnic in the city's Royal Botanical Gardens. His name is definitely Lewis, but what is his last name?

Answer: Hamilton

Hamilton in Ontario was the site of a very special event in 1964, when former National Hockey League star, Miles "Tim" Horton opened his very first coffee shop. As anyone that has visited Canada will know, "Timmies" is now a phenomenon that binds Canadian together.
The city's Royal Botanical Gardens are the largest botanical gardens in Canada, covering a whopping 980 hectares (2,422 acres), meaning that you can wander for a whole day, drinking several Timmies and still not see everything.
Lewis Hamilton has been breaking records since 2007, his first season in Formula One, when as a McLaren driver, he became the youngest ever driver to lead the driver's championship. He finished the season in second place, just one point behind Kimi Räikkonen of Ferrari, making him the youngest ever runner up in the sport, until Sebastian Vettel broke that record in 2009.
5. Carol is our next tour guide and she tells us, as she takes us around this city on the banks of Lake Erie, that she was a member of the Monty Python team. And now for something completely different, as she guides us to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I forgot to get her name though. Can you help?

Answer: Cleveland

Very high on my bucket list is a visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with its seven storeys of memorabilia covering the history of rock and pop music. This iconic building was designed by I.M. Pei, the man also responsible for the famous Louvre pyramid and John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston.
Carol Cleveland appeared in all but 15 episodes of the TV show, "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (1969-1974) and was also in all four films made by the team.
6. UK actress Pat is our next guide, although she also answers to the name Elsie Tanner. She will show off this state capital, home to many golf courses and the Pueblo Grande Museum Archaeological Park. What is Pat's surname?

Answer: Phoenix

The Pueblo Grande Museum Archaeological Park is a fascinating look back in time to early Native American civilisation. With replica Hohokam pit houses and preserved canals and ballparks, it offers a memorable glimpse into history.
Phoenix and its surrounding area is home to over 200 golf courses including TPC of Scottsdale, venue for the Phoenix Open, where on the famous par three 16th hole Tiger Woods scored a hole in one in 1997.
Pat Phoenix was most famous for playing the part of sexy battle axe, Elsie Tanner in long running TV soap opera "Coronation Street" between 1960 and 1984.
7. Our next guide speaks in rhyme. Apparently he does this all the time. His name is Alfred, of that I'm sure. And I'm sorry to be such a bore. But his last name, have you guessed? Is the city that hosts South by Southwest.

Answer: Austin

Austin is the state capital of Texas, and with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, is one of the sunniest cities in USA. All that sunshine makes it a great place to hang out at Hippie Hollow, the only nudist beach in Texas, or attend South by Southwest (SXSW), the annual interactive music and film festival which began in 1987.

The festival has seen some unknown artists secure record deals on the back of their SXSW performance, among them John Mayer in 2000 and James Blunt in 2004, as well as being the event at which major movies have been premiered, most notably "The Hurt Locker" in 2009, which went on to win the Best Picture Oscar in 2010. Alfred Austin was Poet Laureate between 1896 and 1913, after the death of Alfred Lord Tennyson. Austin brought us works such as "Love's Widowhood" (1889) and "The Door Of Humility" (1906).
8. We touch down in our next city, and are greeted by an Italian named Christopher, who will show us the German Village area of the city, founded in 1814 as "Das Alte Südende" (the Old South End) and recognised by the White House in 2007 as a Preserve America Community. If only I could remember Christopher's last name.

Answer: Columbus

Although the German Village started in 1814, it was with the immigration boom of the 1830s that the area grew considerably and by 1865, over a third of the population of Columbus was German. Many German breweries sprang up in the area, making it a wealthy neighbourhood, and one that was hit to such an extent during prohibition that it became a slum area. Thankfully, many of the buildings were preserved due to intense lobbying when the slums were earmarked for demolition and German Village is, in 2019, a most desirable place to live.

Christopher Columbus is famed for his voyages from Spain in 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502 during which he was tried to find a direct sea route west from Europe to Asia. Unfortunately, he was not successful, but he did accidentally stumble upon the Americas.
9. Known as "the city of oaks", this city, midway between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean is where Englishman, Walter acts as our tour guide. Did you catch Walter's last name?

Answer: Raleigh

Raleigh is the state capital of North Carolina and is named after our tour guide, Sir Walter Raleigh, who although he never visited North America, did send others in his name in 1585 to establish the Roanoke Colony, now known as the "Lost Colony", as everyone went missing under mysterious circumstances. There is nothing mysterious about Raleigh, as the city consistently win awards for the quality of life in the city.

Sir Walter is remembered as the man that "introduced" tobacco and potatoes to England, although both of these were already known. However, he certainly helped popularise them.
10. For our final destination, we head north once more, to a city in the Rocky Mountain Trench, well known for the smell of sulphur from the area's many pulp mills, which collects over the town. Our tour guide though is well spoken, and I mean very well spoken. Who is he?

Answer: Prince George

Although many people associate the sulphur odour and nothing else with Prince George in British Columbia, it is a vibrant little city that has so much more on offer. It has an amazingly diverse population, one of the lowest cost of living prices in Canada and I have always enjoyed my time here.
Visitors to the city are greeted by Mr. P.G., a fibreglass man standing almost 27 feet (8.5 metres) high, who is the second Mr. P.G., after the first, a 40 feet (12 metres) wooden man had to be replaced due to rot in 1983.

Prince George is the son of Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He was born in 2013 and is third in the line of succession to the British throne.
