10. "A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy." - Which Briton said this?

Answer: Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes said this in 1605 attributing to his reasons to trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament with King James I present. The authenticity of this needs some qualification, as Guy Fawkes was severely tortured till he confessed. At the Public Record Office in Kew (London) there are samples of his ordinary signature and his signed confession. The 'spidery' weakness of the latter, after prolonged spells on the rack, tells its own story. Strange as it may sound, even King James I himself said that his trial was unfair and unjust.

Thanks for playing.
