Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's the common link between Euodia and Syntyche?

Answer: Two women who were in disagreement.

The correct answer is the two women were in disagreement. In fact the disagreement must have been severe as Paul "pleads" with the two women to agree with each other in the NIV Bible. (Philippians 4:2) In the same verse, he asks the "loyal yokefellows" to help the two women. Scripture doesn't say why the two women were at loggerheads.
2. What's the common link between Cornelius and Julius?

Answer: Two centurions mentioned in Acts.

The correct answer is the two men were centurions in the Roman army and both are mentioned in Acts. The story of Cornelius is told in Acts 10:1-48. He's the first Gentile mentioned in the Bible to become a follower of Jesus Christ. Meanwhile, Julius is mentioned in Acts 27:1-3 as a centurion who was in charge of a number of prisoners including the apostle Paul. Verse 3 states Julius showed kindness to Paul by allowing him to visit with friends when the ship they were on docked at Sidon.
3. What's the common link between Dorcas and Eutychus?

Answer: Two people in Acts raised from the dead.

The correct answer is Dorcas and Eutychus were both raised from the dead in Acts. Dorcas was raised from the dead by the disciple Peter, as per Acts 9:36-43. Meanwhile, the story of Eutychus being raised from the dead by the apostle Paul is told in Acts 20:7-12. Eutychus died after falling out of a third-story window during one of Paul's lengthy sermons.
4. What's the common link between Matthew and Zaccheaus?

Answer: Two tax collectors.

The common link between Matthew and Zacchaeus is they were both tax collectors. The calling of Matthew by Jesus is told in Matthew 9:9 in which it states he was sitting at the tax collector's booth. Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector of Jericho and his story is told in Luke 19: 1-9. For the record, tax collectors were despised by the Jews as they were seen as traitors working for the Romans. What's more, tax collectors were seen as dishonest.

It was generally agreed they would over charge people on their taxes and keep a portion for themselves before turning the proceeds over the Romans.
5. What's the common link between Mary and Martha?

Answer: Two sisters of Lazarus.

Yes, the correct answer is Mary and Martha, the best known sisters in the New Testament. They lived in Bethany and were sisters of Lazarus who was raised from the dead by Jesus. Accounts about Mary and Martha are given in Luke 10:38-42 and John 12:1-8. The story about Lazarus being raised from the dead can be found in John 1:1-44.
6. What's the common link between Onesimus and Philemon?

Answer: A runaway slave and his master.

The correct answer is runaway slave and his master. Onesimus was the runaway slave and Philemon was his owner. Philemon lived in Colossae, in what is now part of Turkey, and after Onesimus ran away, he ended up in Rome where the apostle Paul converted him to Christianity.

The tiny book of Philemon is a heart-felt request by Paul to Philemon to accept Onesimus back, but not as a runaway slave, but as an equal in Christ.
7. What's the common link between Barnabas and Silas?

Answer: Two people who travelled with Paul on his missionary journeys.

The correct answer is Barnabas and Silas were two men who accompanied Paul on his missionary journeys. Barnabas' real name was Joseph but he ended up being known as Barnabas because the name means 'Son of Encouragement' as per Acts 4:36 in the NIV Bible. Silas is perhaps best known for being jailed with Paul, as per Acts 16:16-40. (I highly recommend a quiz by SP44000 about Barnabas. Simply use the word 'Barnabas' in the search template and you'll quickly find the quiz.

Incidentally, SP44000 is a fellow member of the Bible Believers Brigade.)
8. What's the common link between Priscilla and Aquila?

Answer: A husband-wife team that served with the apostle Paul.

Yes, Priscilla and Aquila were a husband-wife team that helped the apostle Paul in spreading the message of a resurrected Jesus. Their story can be found in Acts 18:18-28. In Romans 16:3, Paul states Priscilla and Aquila risked their lives for him. It's interesting to note Priscilla's name precedes Aquila's in Acts.

It's as if she was far more dynamic than her husband. And this at a time when females were generally seen as greatly inferior to males.
9. What's the common link between Rufus and Julia?

Answer: Two people listed in personal greetings in Romans 16.

Yes, Rufus and Julia are two of a number of people who are listed in chapter 16 of Romans. The chapter is largely a long list of personal greetings Paul sends to believers in Rome. The chapter is seen by many today as a tribute to the common "Joe Christians" and "Jane Christians."
10. What's the common link between Jesus Christ and John the Baptist?

Answer: Both had their births foretold by angels.

Yes, both births were both foretold by angels. The angel Gabriel foretells of the birth of John the Baptist in Luke 1:5-25. Meanwhile, Gabriel foretells of the birth of Jesus in Luke 1:26-38. In addition, both of the mothers were cousins.
