Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the king of Judea mentioned in Luke 1:5?

Answer: Herod

Herod was the king who ordered all male children 2 and under to be killed because he heard news of Jesus' birth. There were three Herods in the Bible. This one was Herod the Great.
2. Why did Joseph go to Bethlehem according to Luke 2:3?

Answer: he was of the house and lineage of David

Both Mary's and Joseph's lineage went through King David. This was important because Joseph was not the biological father of Jesus, so for prophesy to be fulfilled Mary's lineage needed to be part of David's line as well.
3. What did the Holy Ghost come down as in Luke 3:22?

Answer: dove

Luke 3:22 says, "And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased." This is one of the times that God stated that Jesus was His Son. Most Christian denominations teach that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Ghost) make up the Trinity.
4. How many days was Jesus in the wilderness according to Luke 4:1-2?

Answer: 40

While He was in the wilderness He was tempted three times by Satan. First, Satan tempted Jesus to change the stones into bread. The second temptation was that he offered Jesus everything if he'd worship him (Satan). The third temptation he brought Him to the top of the temple and told him to fall because if He was indeed God angels would catch Him. Each time, Jesus quoted from the Old Testament scriptures and did not succumb to the temptation. You can find this in chapter 4 of Luke.
5. Who did the scribes and Pharisees say had the power to forgive sin in Luke 5:21?

Answer: God

Jesus forgave people's sin and this angered the scribes and the Pharisees. They did not believe that Jesus was God and therefore considered it blasphemy.
6. What did Jesus say one must do before casting the mote out of someone else's eye in Luke 6:42 in the King James Version?

Answer: cast the beam from your own eye

I had to look up the word "mote". It is a tiny piece of substance, like dust. The NIV uses the word speck instead of mote. The idea is that before you can condemn someone else you need to look at yourself first.
7. Where did Jesus go in the beginning of Luke chapter 7?

Answer: Capernaum

Jesus moved to Capernaum to start his ministry. Capernaum was located in Galilee.
8. Who did Herod think Jesus was according to Luke 9:7?

Answer: John the Baptist back from the dead

Herod had had John the Baptist beheaded earlier. Jesus preached He was the Son of God and that people needed Him. Since John the Baptist preached about Jesus, Herod thought they were the same person and it scared him.
9. Jesus said in Luke 10:3 (King James Version), "I send you forth as lambs among _________" what?

Answer: wolves

Jesus was warning them that, what they had to say, many people would not want to hear. Like a lamb among wolves their lives were in danger. Like people of all religions, Christians are sometimes persecuted for their beliefs.
10. What does God know the number of according to Luke 12:7?

Answer: hairs on your head

The idea here is both literal and figurative. In Christian teaching, He literally knows how many hairs are on our head because God is omniscient. But it's figurative in the sense that it's saying if God knows that much about us, then He must really care about us.
