Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Scripture, which Old Testament character lived to be 930 years old?

Answer: Adam

Adam is the correct answer. He is actually the third oldest man in the Bible, with Methuselah, at 969 years, and Jared, at 962 years, living longer. Adam, of course, was the first person created by God, according to Genesis. God also created a woman and Adam gave her the name Eve, which translates as "the mother of all living."
2. The first woman to be named in the Old Testament, apart from Eve, has a name which begins with the letter 'A'. Can you name her?

Answer: Adah

With the exception of Eve, Adah is the first female mentioned by name in the Old Testament. Her name appears in Genesis 4:19, just before the name of another woman, Zillah. The two women were both married to Lamech and Adah was the mother of Jabal, described in Scripture as "the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock."

There is another woman in the Bible with the name Adah. According to Scripture, the other Adah was the daughter of Elon and the wife of Esau.

And some more trivia. According to Wikipedia, Adah is also a placename in Pennsylvania. It is an unincorporated community in German Township, Fayette County. "It is known as a patch town as it was created to support a coal mine," Wikipedia reports. "Adah is the home of the Palmer Mine."
3. David had two wives with names that both started with the letter 'A'. Can you name them?

Answer: Ahinoam and Abigail

Ahinoam and Abigail were both wives of David. Abigail is the best known of the two as her "surly and mean" husband Nabal was struck dead by the LORD, according to Scripture. Shortly after Nabal's death, Abigail became David's wife. In 1 Samuel 25:3, she is described as "intelligent and beautiful".

Ahinoam was already David's wife when he married Abigail, according to 1 Samuel 25:43. Ahinoam was from Jezreel. She bore David a son and he was called Amnon.
4. In the 25th chapter of Exodus, Moses receives instruction from the LORD regarding the construction of a special vessel that starts with the letter 'A'. What was it called?

Answer: Ark of Covenant

The correct answer is the Ark of Covenant, or Ark of the Testimony. The ark was used to accommodate the tablets of stone on which the Ten Commandments were inscribed. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible has this interesting observation to make about the Ark of Testimony: "The highly decorated, beautifully fashioned ark kept the charter of the nation's relationship with God -- the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments -- along with other symbols of God's mercy to them."

According to Scripture, Moses was on Mount Sinai when the Ten Commandments were given by the LORD. The commandments are listed in the 20th chapter of Exodus.
5. David had a treasurer whose name started with the letter 'A'. According to Scripture, the treasurer was famous for his wisdom, however, he made a crucial mistake when he deserted David and joined Absalom when he attempted to become king in a bloody coup. What's the treasurer's name?

Answer: Ahithophel

The correct answer is Ahithophel. Although he wasn't loyal to David, his son was Eliam, one of the mighty warriors in David's army. It appears Ahithopel was more of a hindrance than a help for Absalom, however. According to 2 Samuel 15:31, when David learned Ahithophel had joined Absalom's camp, David prayed the "LORD would turn Ahithophel's counsel into foolishness". Ahithophel's advice would prove to be useless and, after Absalom stopped listening to him, Scripture reports that Ahithophel put his house in order and hanged himself.
6. How many books in the Old Testament and the New Testament start with the letter 'A'?

Answer: 2

Amos and Acts are the two books that start with the letter 'A'. Amos is in the Old Tesatment while Acts is in the New Testament. Amos is regarded as one of the 12 minor prophets in the Christian Bible and was written by a prophet with the same name. Meanwhile, the book of Acts was written by Luke and it is by and large a history of the early church. Acts appears immediately after the four Gospels -- Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
7. In what city were believers in a resurrected Jesus Christ first called Christians?

Answer: Antioch

Members of the early church were first called Christians at Antioch, according to Acts 11:26. Previously, people who believed in a resurrected Jesus Christ referred to themselves 'The Way'. According to notes in the NKJV Bible, the term Christian was originally used to ridicule believers. Later, however, members of the early church would begin to refer to themselves as Christians. Antioch was situated near Antakya, in present day Turkey.
8. The apostle Paul writes in 2 Timothy 4:14 that a man he identifies as a metalworker did "a great deal of harm" to him. What's the name of the metalworker?

Answer: Alexander

Alexander was a metalworker but not much else is known about him. In 2 Timothy 4:11, Paul simply writes Alexander the metalworker had done "a great deal of harm" to him, and no further details are given. There is some speculation it could be the same Alexander that is mentioned in 1 Timothy 1:20.

In that verse, Paul tells of Hymenaeus and Alexander being "handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme."
9. According to Scripture, Peter and Philip, were two members of the original twelve disciples who came from Bethsaida. What's the name of the third disciple who came from the same community?

Answer: Andrew

Andrew, of course, is the correct answer. The home of the three disciples is revealed in John 1:44. Bethsaida was a fishing community on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Peter and Andrew were both brothers, although Peter played a much more dominant role among the disciples.
10. The last word in both the King James Version and the New International Version in the New Testament is Amen?

Answer: True

The final verse appears in Revelation 22:21, a book John wrote while in exile on the island of Patmos. The verse, in the NIV Bible, states: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with God's people. Amen." The final chapter is largely about the River of Life and the pronouncement Jesus is coming.
