Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Acts 9, where was Saul coming from when the light came down from Heaven?

Answer: Jerusalem

Saul went to the high priest in Jerusalem and asked for letters to the synagogues in Damascus so that if he found any Christians he could take them as prisoners. He then left Jerusalem and set out for Damascus. When he had almost reached Damascus the light came down and he heard Jesus speaking to him. This can be found in Acts 9:1-4.
2. What time was it when the bright light came from Heaven and shone on Saul?

Answer: Noon

While Paul (the name Saul was to take as a Christian) was on trial after his arrest in Jerusalem he told the court his story including his conversion. He said it was about noon and he was almost to Damascus when the light came from Heaven and he heard the voice of Jesus speaking to him. This can be found in Acts 22.
3. Saul was planning to arrest men in Damascus, but not any women.

Answer: False

He got the letters to the synagogues in Damascus from the high priest in Jerusalem so that if he found any Christians, whether men or women, he could take them to Jerusalem as his prisoners. This can be found in Acts 9:1-2.
4. What did Saul/Paul say about the men who were with him on his journey to Damascus when he recalled the experience in Acts 22?

Answer: They saw the light but couldn't understand the voice they heard from it

They saw the light but weren't blinded by it. They didn't understand Jesus' voice but they did hear it. After the revelation those men lead Saul into the city, which is also how we know they weren't blinded and they didn't desert Saul. This can be found in Acts 22.
5. What was the reaction of the men who were with Saul when he saw the light?

Answer: They were speechless

When the revelation ended the men stood there speechless because of what had happened. When Saul stood up and opened his eyes he realized that he couldn't see so the men led him to Damascus. This can be found in Acts 9.
6. How long was Saul unable to see after he was blinded by the light?

Answer: three days

He was blind for three days, then Ananias came to him at the Lord's bidding and prayed for him. Then something like scales fell from his eyes and he could see again. This can be found in Acts 9.
7. Did Saul know in advance that Ananias would come to him?

Answer: Yes

When God told Ananias that he needed to go to the house of Judas on Straight Street to give Saul his sight back and fill him with the Spirit, Ananias was hesitant because he knew that Saul had been persecuting Christians. He was afraid that Saul would take him. But then the Lord said that Saul had seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming and healing him, and filling him with the Spirit.

Saul thus knew in advance about the visit. This can be found in Acts 9:10-16.
8. Where did Ananias live?

Answer: Damascus

Acts 9:10 says, "In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias.". It then tells of God instructing him to go to the house of Judas on Straight Street, ask for Saul of Tarsus and lay hands on him to heal him.
9. What does Acts say happened when Saul's sight was restored?

Answer: He was filled with the Spirit

Ananias went to the house Saul was staying in and laid his hands on him. He then told Saul that Jesus had sent him there so that Saul could receive his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Immediately something like scales fell from Saul's eyes and he could see again. Saul then got up and was baptized.

Then he ate for the first time in three days and got his strength back up. This can be found in Acts 9:17-19.
10. Peter trained Saul in the gospels for three weeks before Paul started preaching.

Answer: False

Acts 9 says that Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus and immediately started preaching in the synagogues that Jesus was the Son of God. The people who heard this were astonished to hear him preaching because he had worked so hard against Christianity, and now here he was preaching the gospel.

It says that Paul started preaching at once, so the answer is false.
