Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the first word of Colossians in the King James Version?

Answer: Paul

It says in Colossians 1:1, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother."

The book of Colossians is a letter, probably written by Paul, to the church of Colossae.
2. What does Paul say he and Timothy do not cease to do?

Answer: pray

It says in Colossians 1:9, "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding."

Many people in the world pray and there are many different ways in which people pray.
3. What does Paul say believers have redemption through?

Answer: His (Jesus) blood

It says in Colossians 1:14, "In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins."

The word redemption means to be freed at a price. The idea comes from slavery in which, for a slave to be free, someone would have to buy the slave's freedom.
4. What place is mentioned in verse 2:1?

Answer: Laodicea

It says in Colossians 2:1, "For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh."

Laodicea was a city in southwest Asia Minor.
5. What does verse 3:8 say to "put out of your mouth"?

Answer: filthy communication

It says in Colossians 3:8, "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth."

Filthy communications refers to bad words as well as to using words to harm others.
6. In the King James Version, what does Colossians say is the bond of perfectness?

Answer: charity

It says in Colossians 3:14, "And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness."

In some versions, the word charity is translated as love.
7. Why should fathers not provoke their children to anger?

Answer: Lest they be discouraged

It says in Colossians 3:21, "Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged."

This goes with the verse before, which talks about children obeying their parents.
8. What does Paul say "your speech" should always be with?

Answer: grace

It says in Colossians 4:6, "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."

In this case, grace likely refers to grace like what a ballerina might have when dancing.
9. Who is "sister's son" to Barnabas?

Answer: Marcus

It says in Colossians 4:10, "Aristarchus my fellow prisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him)."

Marcus is the Latin form of Mark and the name means large hammer.
10. How does Paul describe Luke?

Answer: the beloved physician

It says in Colossians 4:14, "Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you."

This is the same Luke who wrote the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament.
