Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who literally fell out of his chair backward and died?

Answer: Eli

"And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years." (1 Samuel 4:18)

In other words, Eli fell out of his chair backwards after hearing that the ark of the covenant had been stolen and his sons were killed -- he was utterly shocked, fell out of his chair backwards, and died from a broken neck.
2. What was not a step in a Biblical test that was used to determine whether a wife was unfaithful?

Answer: Birth of a baby out of the belly

In Numbers 5:11-31, it basically says that a man that suspected his wife of cheating would take her to the priest and have him take holy water, bless it with a 'curse,' and make the woman drink it. After drinking it, the woman's belly would either swell or remain normal. If it swelled, then the woman was said to have committed adultery.
3. The names of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are NOT the actual birth names of three people listed in the Bible.

Answer: True

"Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego." (Daniel 1:6-7)

In this passage, King Nebuchadnezzar (king of Babylon) had taken in Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah as slaves. After this, he gave them the slave names of Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego.
4. Who spoke to Jesus at the Transfiguration?

Answer: Both of these

"And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias." (Matthew 17:2-4)

While Jesus was enduring the transfiguration, Jesus was spoken to by both Moses and Elias.
5. After his iniquities had resulted in God having no one to send to preach, who said, "Here am I, send me" when God called again?

Answer: Isaiah

"Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, 'See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.'
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'" (Isaiah 6:6-8)

Previously, Isaiah had sinned and felt that he was unworthy to go tell people about God. As a result, a seraph (angel) flew out of the sky and pierced (as in burned) his tongue with a hot coal, which purged him of his sin that he had committed. When God later asked whom he should send, he told God to send him.
6. Whose name means "child of the right hand?"

Answer: Benjamin

"Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and had great difficulty. And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife said to her, 'Don't be afraid, for you have another son.' As she breathed her last-for she was dying-she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin." (Genesis 35:16-18)

Rachel only had two sons, Joseph (coat of many colors) and Benjamin (originally named Benoni). Immediately after having the second son, she named him Benoni, which mean 'child of great sorrow,' and died. However, Jacob (his father) later went back and renamed him to Benjamin, which means literally, 'child of the right hand'.
7. Where was Phillip taken to by the Spirit of the Lord?

Answer: Azotus

"When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea." (Acts 8:39-40)

Philip was on his way from Jerusalem to Gaza whenever he met an Ethiopian. After he met him, they continued on down the road and talked about numerous religious aspects, such as baptism. When they came upon a body of water, the Ethiopian wished to be baptized, as Philip would do for him. As they later continued on the road, Philip was suddenly 'caught up' by God and sent to the city called Azotus.
8. How does the phrase "mene mene tekel upharsin" appear in the Bible?

Answer: The handwriting on the wall

"But you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription. This is the inscription that was written: Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin."
(Daniel 5:22-25)

This is where the modern-day phrase "the handwriting on the wall" originated. King Belshazzar had defiled the temple previously in the early part of Daniel 5. While he was defiling it (throwing a party), he was astonished and temporarily frozen due to shock by seeing an enormous hand come through the door and write the phrase on the wall. This phrase was basically bringing doom upon Belshazzar's kingdom.
9. In the book of Mark, something strange occurs while Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane. What is this strange occurrence, described only in that one Gospel?

Answer: A naked man running through the garden

"And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked." (Mark 14:51-52)

Right before Jesus was going to be taken to trial, a man with a white linen cloth ran up to Jesus, touched him, left his cloth, and fled naked. This is not mentioned in any of the other gospels, nor is it shown in the movie "The Passion."
10. What test was done to prove that Levi's tribe was to lead the tribes of Israel?

Answer: Aaron would inscribe the names of each tribe on rods; the first one to bloom would be the leader.

"Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod.
And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers. And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you. And it shall come to pass, that the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you." (Numbers 17:3-5)

This one is self-explanatory. Basically, Aaron was told to put each name of the father of the tribes of Israel on a different staff and leave them in the tent. He was later supposed to return and see which of the staffs had bloomed, which showed which tribe was to be the leader (this turned out to be the tribe of Levi).
