Valmiki was a great saint of the ancient times. His works of Sanskrit are well known throughout India. He belonged to the Koli tribe in Maharashtra. He had done many evil deeds in his life, hence his wife and kids hated him. He decided to do some good deeds and began writing the text of Ramayana. He took a vow that by the completion of the script, his sins would flow away.

Answer: Hanuman and Bhima

While taking a stroll on the road, Bhima comes across a monkey with his tail covering the road. Bhima tries to move his tail with his gada (A weapon used commonly in the Hindu epics). Suddenly, when he realises that Hanuman has taken the avatar of the monkey, he bows before him and apologises. These two characters are among the very few who link Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The battle of Kurukshetra in Uttar Pradesh is still known to all Indians. This battle was fought between the Pandavas and Kauravas. Duryodhana and Dushyasana of the Kauravas faced serious defeat at the hands of Arjuna. The battle continued for a surprising eighteen days and the Pandavas emerged victorious.

Mandodhari was a character which was not known to many people. It was revealed when people went in search of information about Ravana's kingdom. Mandodhari was Ravana's first queen and she was provided a separate palace by Ravana. It is believed that she was against the kidnap of Sita but could never speak up out of the fear of the fearsome Ravana.

Ravana was king of Lanka, which is often identified with the modern nation of Sri Lanka. It was a beautiful city and Ravana was said to have been a good ruler.

Shesha, also known as Anantha, is the snake on which Lord Vishnu rests and sleeps. Shesha had also protected the basket of Baby Krishna from rain, when he was being carried to Gokul by his father Vasudev to protect Krishna from Kansa. Kansa had killed the first six children of Devaki and Vasudev.

Answer: Washerman from Rama's kingdom

The washer-man told Rama that it is not good for the king to have a wife who has been to the kingdom of another king. Hence, he asked Rama to exile Sita, and Rama had to listen to his praja. Rama believed that since Sita had been to Ravana's kingdom, she became impure.

Answer: Feet

The feet of a man contains the marma which is very sensitive. When Krishna was shot by an arrow, it hit the marma and hence Krishna died. There are 138 marmas in total in the human body and the one in the feet is one of them. The marma is meant for relaxation and is used in physiotherapy. If the marma is injured, it may lead to the death of a person. The same happened with Krishna.

Answer: Indrajeet

Indrajeet was the elder son of Ravana. He had taken a vow to kill Laxman in Ramayana. In the battle between Indrajeet and Laxman he seriously injured Laxman after which Hanuman had bought the Sanjeevani boothi (herb) to cure him. Nevertheless, Indrajeet lost the battle and his life.

Answer: Manthara

Manthara was the old woman who asked Kaikeyi to exile Rama and give the throne to her son Bharata. She told Kaikeyi that this would increase the power of her kingdom and also will give a chance for Bharata to rule.
