Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the first word of I Timothy?

Answer: Paul

It says in I Timothy 1:1, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope."

I and II Timothy are letters by Paul, written to Timothy.
2. What does Paul say he was in the past?

Answer: blasphemer

It says in I Timothy 1:13, "Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief."

Blasphemy is speaking bad words against God, or using His name in a way that does not honor Him.
3. Who does Paul say is the mediator between God and men?

Answer: Christ Jesus

It says in I Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"

Paul is explaining to Timothy one of the things that Jesus can do for His people.
4. Who does Paul say was formed first: Adam or Eve?

Answer: Adam

It says in I Timothy 2:13, "For Adam was first formed, then Eve."

The verse is a reference back to the Old Testament book of the Bible, Genesis.
5. What does Paul say the deacons must be?

Answer: grave

It says in I Timothy 3:8, "Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre."

By "grave", it does not mean a deacon cannot be happy and have fun. Rather, in matters of the church and God, a deacon will take the job very seriously and be respected.
6. What does Paul say the deacons should be found to be?

Answer: blameless

It says in I Timothy 3:10, "And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless."

The deacons are leaders in the church, so it makes sense that they should be found blameless, as they set an example for others in the church.
7. What kind of fables are the readers told to refuse?

Answer: old wives'

It says in I Timothy 4:7, "But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness."

When Paul talks about "old wives' fables" he is telling his readers not to argue over myths that have no Biblical backing.
8. What kind of honor does Paul describe when talking about the "elders"?

Answer: double

It says in I Timothy 5:17, "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine."

The New Living Translation describes this "double honor" as being "respected and paid well".
9. What does Paul say people should be content with?

Answer: food and raiment

It says in I Timothy 6:8, "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

Raiment is clothing. This verse tells us that if we have the basics in life, we should be happy.
10. What kind of babbling does Paul say to avoid?

Answer: vain

It says in I Timothy 6:20, "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called."

The name Timothy means "honoring God." Timothy was a friend and coworker of Paul's.
