Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before Joshua could decide on taking Jericho, he sent two men to spy it out. Where were these men from?

Answer: Shittim

Joshua 2:1. Though these men's identities weren't disclosed in this verse, their homeland was given here. Aside from that, Pithom is a city in Egypt, Sorek is a valley where Samson met Delilah, and Nebo is the name of the mountain where Moses died and was laid to rest by God.
2. What kind of plants did the two spies hide in on the rooftop of Rahab's house?

Answer: Flax

Joshua 2:6. The two spies and Rahab had anticipated that the king of Jericho was going to conduct a search for the spies themselves. With that, Rahab lied to the king's henchmen who came for them, by telling them that she didn't know where the spies were, thus leading them away from her house.
3. Before she hid the men, what did Rahab already know about the children of Israel?

Answer: All of these

Joshua 2:10. These are all reasons why she did what she did with the spies. Rahab had fear of the Lord and, for that, received honorable mention in Hebrews 11:31.
4. What was the sign of the deal the spies made with Rahab?

Answer: a scarlet thread hanging out the window

Joshua 2:18-23. Rahab and the spies made a deal: If Rahab's household were to exit the house and enter the streets by the time Israel raided Jericho, whatever happened to them wouldn't be their fault. If they staid inside the house along with Rahab, anything that happened to them would be their fault.

The sign used to mark Rahab's house was the same scarlet thread used to help the spies escape Jericho.
5. Who approached Joshua with a strategy to capture Jericho?

Answer: the captain of the host of the Lord

Joshua 5:13-15. He first told Joshua to remove his shoes because, like Moses, Joshua was standing on holy ground. The idea given to Joshua was to have the children of Israel walk around the city one time a day for six days. Then on the seventh day they would walk around the city seven times.
6. As well as marching around the city for seven days, what were the children of Israel also supposed to do after they were done marching for the final time?

Answer: Shout

Joshua 6:5, also 6:16. It was told by the captain of the Lord's host that the walls shall fall down when their walking is complete, and it happened as it was foretold.
7. What did Joshua tell the children of Israel about the spoils of Jericho?

Answer: All of these

Joshua 6:18-19. These were very simple instructions given by Joshua. As we go along, we learn of someone in the camp of Israel that didn't heed the word of Joshua about taking the accursed things for themselves.
8. What was the name of the city where Joshua took up three thousand men and failed to capture it?

Answer: Ai

Joshua 7:3-5. He ended up losing thirty-six men out those three thousand he took up to Ai, all because of Achan's sin.
9. How many shekels of silver did Achan take out of Jericho?

Answer: 200

Joshua 7:21. Achan admitted to Joshua that he taken the 200 shekels of silver. He also took a Babylon-like garment, and a golden wedge of 50 shekels weight.
10. What was Achan's punishment for taking accursed things out of Jericho?

Answer: His sons and daughters were to be stoned along with him

Joshua 7:23-26. Achan's punishment for stealing and covetous behavior was highly extreme. Not only was he put to death, but so were his children, his oxen, his donkeys, and his sheep. All of these died, and his home tent was burned away and buried under a heap of stones.
