The Salt Lake Temple took 40 years to build, so the St. George Temple was completed first, in 1877 and the Salt Lake in 1893. The Provo Temple was completed in 1972 and the Jordan River in 1981.
3. ALL members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints can enter the temple.

Answer: false

In order to enter the temple, you must be a member in good standing and hold a recommend signed by your bishop or branch president. Children twelve and over can obtain a limited-use recommend that allows them to do baptisms for the dead, but they cannot enter the main part of the temple.
4. What was the first temple built outside of the United States?

Answer: Cardston, Alberta

The Cardston Temple was completed in 1923, Bern in 1955, London in 1958 and Johannesburg in 1985.
5. As the year 2000 grew to a close, how many dedicated temples were there worldwide?

Answer: 102

President Gordon B. Hinckley made it a goal to have 100 operating temples by the end of 2000. The Church made that goal, plus some. As of June 2004, there were 119 dedicated temples and at least 10 under construction.
6. Which of the following does NOT take place in a temple?

Answer: general conferences

Not only can a member receive their own endowment and be sealed to their spouse for time and all eternity in the temple, members can also do the same, plus baptisms and more, for those who have died without having these ordinances taken care of.
General Conferences are held at the Tabernacle or the Conference Center and are broadcast worldwide.
7. Can non-members ever see the inside of a temple?

Answer: yes

Absolutely! Before any temple is dedicated, there is an open house that is open to anybody that wants to come. If there is a temple going up in your area, I highly recommend you attend the open house, for no other reason than temples are so beautiful inside.
8. Who's that guy you see perched atop the temple?

Answer: Moroni

Many temples have a gold statue of the Angel Moroni on top. Moroni was a Book of Mormon prophet, last of the Nephites. It was he who delivered up the gold plates to Joseph Smith for translation. The LDS Church honors this great man by putting him on their temples.
9. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was first formed in Fayette, New York in 1830. Is there a temple located in Upstate New York?

Answer: yes

The Palmyra, New York Temple was dedicated April 6, 2000 - 170 years to the day after the Church was organized. The temple has beautiful windows that depict the nearby Sacred Grove.
