Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What prophet of God states in the NKJV, "All we like sheep have gone astray"?

Answer: Isaiah

The statement "all we like sheep have gone astray" is found in Isaiah 53:6. To put the verse in context, here's how Isaiah 53:4-7 reads in the NKJV:
"Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth."

Many Christians believe Isaiah 53:4-7 prophesies about the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah was the the son of Amoz and he prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2. According to Scripture, David was tending to sheep when his father Jesse had a distinguished visitor. Who was the visitor?

Answer: Samuel

Samuel is the correct answer, as per 1 Samuel 16:11. The 16th chapter of 1 Samuel tells of Samuel, the last judge of Israel, receiving divine instructions to visit Jesse, as a member of his household had been picked by God to replace Saul as king.

The chapter goes on to tell of Samuel inspecting seven sons of Jesse to determine which one would become king. However, after Samuel inspected the sons, he wanted to know if there was anyone else in the family he could look at.

In Verse 11 Jesse informs Samuel his youngest son David was not present because he was taking care of the sheep. Samuel then requested for David to be brought before him and when he saw him, he became convinced he had met the future king of Israel.

Scripture tells of Samuel receiving word from the LORD to anoint David "for this is the one!" Verse 13 states Samuel took a horn of oil and anointed David in the midst of his brothers "and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward."
3. According to 1 Samuel 25:2-9, the husband of Abigail was shearing his sheep when David's men paid him a visit. What was the sheep shearer's name?

Answer: Nabal

Nabal, the husband of Abigail, was shearing his sheep when he was visited by David's men. According to 1 Samuel 25:3, Nabal was "harsh and evil" and when he was visited by David's men, his natural colors were on display. David's men received a hostile reception, even though David had told them to extend a message of peace and prosperity to him.

Scripture goes on to tell of David's men making a hasty retreat. Later, Nabal would be struck dead in a case of divine retribution and his wife would end up marrying David.
4. According to 1 Kings 22:17, what prophet of God told Ahab that Israel would be scattered like sheep?

Answer: Micaiah

Micaiah is the correct answer as per 1 Kings 22:17. Micaiah made the statement about Israel being scattered like sheep when Abab asked him to give a prophecy about his future.

Micaiah predicted the death of Ahab in a lengthy discourse that can be found in 1 Kings 22:8-28. In Verse 8, Ahab, king of Israel, is quoted as saying he hated Micaiah because "he never prophesies anything good about me." Micaiah was once again true to form when he delivered his prophesy. The death of Ahab is chronicled in 2 Kings 22:29-40.

Not much is known about Micaiah, but Scripture does state he was the son of Imlah. He was also a contemporary of Jeremiah, as per Jeremiah 36:11-13.
5. According to Genesis 22:7 what young man who was almost slaughtered asked his father where was the lamb for a sacrificial offering to God?

Answer: Isaac

The story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaac is one of the best known stories in the Old Testament. Scripture reports God commanded Abraham to take his son Isaac to a mountain in the region of Moriah and to sacrifice him as a burnt offering.

Just as Abraham was preparing to sacrifice Isaac, Scripture reports an angel of the LORD called out and told him to spare his son because it was evident Abraham feared God. After the angel called out, Abraham spotted a ram in the thicket and used it as his sacrificial offering.

The story is told in the 22nd chapter of Genesis. Many Christians compare this episode to God's sacrifice of His own son, Jesus, in the New Testament.
6. According to 2 Kings 3:4 in the NKJV, what king of Moab was a sheepbreeder?

Answer: Mesha

Mesha, the king of Moab, was a sheepbreeder, as per 2 Kings 3:4. The verse tells of Mesha regularly paying a tribute of one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams to Ahab, king of Israel.

When Jehoram became king, replacing Ahab, Mesha rebelled and refused to pay the tribute. Scripture goes on to tell of Jehoram forming an alliance with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and soundly defeating Mesha and his soldiers in battle.
7. "You were as sheep going astray," is a statement found in a New Testament book. Which book contains the statement?

Answer: 1 Peter

The statement "you were as sheep going astray," is found in 1 Peter 2:25 of the NKJV. The entire verse states, "For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls."

1 and 2 Peter were both written by Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples. The letter of 1 Peter was addressed to believers in the early church in Asia Minor, part of present day Turkey. Meanwhile, 2 Peter was addressed to believers everywhere.
8. Which one of the four Gospels tells of Jesus speaking about separating the sheep from the goats?

Answer: Matthew

Jesus speaks about separating the sheep from the goats in Matthew 25:32. To put the verse in context, here's how Matthew 25:31-33 reads in the NKJV: "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats."

Matthew, the writer of the Gospel of Matthew, was one of Christ's original Twelve Disciples. Previously he had served as a tax collector. Matthew is also known as Levi.
9. Matthew 10:16 tells of Jesus making the following statement: "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves." To whom did Jesus make the statement?

Answer: The disciples

Jesus made the statement to His disciples, according to Matthew 10:16. In His instructions to the disciples, Jesus told them to go to "the lost sheep of the house of Israel." He also told them to preach "the kingdom of heaven is at hand,"and to "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead and cast out demons."

As part of his discharge, Jesus told the disciples to be like "sheep in the midst of wolves" and to be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
10. What New Testament book tells of a lamb with seven horns and seven eyes?

Answer: Revelation

Details about the lamb with seven horns and seven eyes are found in Revelation 5:6. The verse in the NKJV reads, "And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth."

Revelation is the last book of the Christian Bible and it has perplexed and challenged its readers for centuries. The book was written by John while in exile on the windswept island of Patmos. Tradition holds John was one of the original Twelve Disciples.
