Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Philip. (John 12:20-22)

Answer: Greek delegation

According to Scripture, a Greek delegation wanting to meet with Jesus approached Philip to do so. Philip, in turn, contacted Andrew who led the Greeks to a meeting with Christ. Details can be found in John 12: 20-22.

Incidentally, Philip and Andrew are the only two of the original Twelve Disciples with Greek names. Some theologians suspect Philip may have been able to speak Greek and if this was the case, it would've made sense for the Greeks to approach Philip to lead them to Christ.

Similar to Andrew, Philip came from Bethsaida.
2. Find the match for Felix. (Acts 24)

Answer: Heard Paul's case

The 24th chapter of Acts is devoted to the trial of Paul before Felix with charges against him levied by the high priest Ananias. Arguing the case on behalf of Ananias and some of the elders was a lawyer named Tertullus. Paul appeared to be scoring major points in the trial. Acts 24:25, in the NIV Bible states things this way: "As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, 'That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'"

It was all for naught, however, as Acts 24:27 states Felix wanted to grant a "favor to the Jews" and left Paul in prison for two more years.
3. Find the match for Peter. (John 21:11)

Answer: 153 fish

Peter was part of the disciples who caught one hundred and fifty-three fish after they had fished unsuccessfully all night and Jesus told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. After catching the fish, Jesus and the disciples enjoyed breakfast by the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Here's how John 21:6-14 reads in the NKJV: "And He said to them, 'Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.' So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, 'It is the Lord!' Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, 'Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.'

"Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken. Jesus said to them, 'Come and eat breakfast.' Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, 'Who are You?' -- knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

"This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead."
4. Find the match for Joseph. (Matthew 1:16)

Answer: Husband of Mary

Joseph, of course, was the husband of Mary, the young girl who gave birth to Jesus while still a virgin. According to Matthew 13:55, Joseph was a carpenter. Matthew 1:16, states Joseph was the son of Jacob. Verses 20 and 21 go on to state an angel of the Lord informed Joseph his wife-to-be Mary, while still a virgin, "will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
5. Find the match for Lois. (2 Timothy 1:5)

Answer: Grandmother of Timothy

Lois was the mother of Eunice and the grandmother of Timothy, according to Scripture. However, not much is known about her as she is mentioned in passing reference. In 2 Timothy 1:3-5, Paul writes in the NKJV: "I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also."

According to Acts 16:1, Eunice was a Jew and her husband was a Greek.
6. Find the match for Joseph of Arimathea. (Matthew 27:59-60)

Answer: Provided Christ's tomb

Joseph of Arimathea, according to Scripture, provided the tomb for Christ's burial after the crucifixion. He was assisted in taking Christ's body from Calvary to his tomb by Nicodemus, according to John 19:39.

Here's how Matthew 27:57-61, in the NKJV, tells of what transpired: "Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him. When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb."
7. Find the match for Urbanus. (Romans 16:9)

Answer: In Paul's greetings

Urbanus is described by Paul in Romans 16:9 in the NKJV as a "fellow worker in Christ". (In the NIV, he is described as a "co-worker.") However, not much is known about Urbanus as he is mentioned in only this verse in Scripture. In the NKJV, Paul simply states: "Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and Stachys, my beloved." In total, Paul extends greetings to twenty-nine people in the sixteenth chapter of Romans with ten of them being women.
8. Find the match for Nathanael. (John 1:49)

Answer: Profound declaration

According to Scripture, Nathanael was the first disciple to declare Jesus was the Son of God. John 1:49, in the NKJV, quotes Nathanael as telling Jesus, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" The declaration is made months, perhaps years before Peter made his declaration in Matthew 16:16 that Christ is "the Son of the living God." Similar declarations by Peter are also recorded in Mark 8:29 and Luke 9:20.

Many theologians believe Bartholomew and Nathanael are the same person. When a list of the names of the disciples is given in Matthew, Mark and Luke, it contains the name Bartholomew, but not Nathanael. (The name Bartholomew is also mentioned in Acts.) However, in John there is mention of Nathanael, but no mention of Bartholomew. In Biblical times, it was common for people to have two names. For example, there's Peter who was also called Simon, and there's Matthew who was also called Levi, etc.
9. Find the match for an unnamed little boy who was in a crowd following Jesus. (John 6:1-14)

Answer: Miraculous feeding

According to John 6:1-14, an unnamed boy gave Jesus five loaves of bread and two small fish which Christ used to feed a multitude of people. According to John 6:10, Jesus was able to use the pittance of food to feed five thousand men. However, many theologians believe Jesus fed as many as fifteen thousand people as the figure does not include women and children. As per custom of the day, women and children were not included in census figures and the like.

Details about the miraculous feeding can be also found in Matthew 14, Mark 6 and Luke 9.

Meanwhile, details about a second miraculous feeding by Jesus can be found in Matthew 15 and Mark 8. In the second incident, He fed 4,000 men with seven loaves and a "few small fish".
10. Find the match for Drusilla. (Acts 24:24)

Answer: Wife of Felix

Drusilla was a Jewish woman who was married to Felix, Governor of Judea, when the apostle Paul appeared before him. According to the website Biblical-Baby-Names.com Drusilla means 'watered by the dew.' According to the same website she was the daughter of Herod Agrippa. In the entire Bible, her name appears in only Acts 24:24.
