Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first woman to have her death reported in Scripture is Lot's wife. Who was the second woman to have her death recorded?

Answer: Sarah

The correct answer is Sarah, wife of Abraham. Her death is recorded in the 23rd chapter of Genesis. She died at the age of 127 years, according to Scripture. While she is the second woman to have her death recorded in the Bible, she is the first dead woman to be named. In the first case, the deceased is simply referred to as Lot's wife. Sarah was the mother of Isaac.
2. Othniel was the first judge of Israel. Who was the second?

Answer: Ehud

According to Judges 3:15, Ehud was a left-handed Benjamite who was the son of Gera. The same passage describes Ehud as a "deliverer" from God. The second judge of Israel is known for killing Eglon, the "very fat" king of king of Moab, as per Judges 3:17-22. Under his leadership, the Israelites killed 10,000 Moabites and there was peace in the land for 80 years, according to Judges 3:29-30.
3. Rehoboam was the first king of Judah after the northern kingdom broke away. Who was the second king?

Answer: Abijah

Abijah served three turbulent years as king with war raging between his army and the army of Jeroboam, as per the 15th chapter of 1 Kings. After Rehoboam had served as king for 18 years, Abijah ascended to the throne. He was the son of Nebat and Maakah, the daughter of Abishalom. According to 1 Kings 15:3, in the NIV Bible, Abijah "committed all the sins his father had done before him."
4. According to Scripture, Enoch was the first person who was taken away by God and didn't suffer a natural death. Who was the second person to be taken away by God?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah's sudden departure is recorded in 2 Kings 2:11-13, while he was walking along with the prophet Elisha. The NIV Bible records Elijah being taken up to heaven in this way: "As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, 'My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!' And Elisha saw him no more.

Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart." Elijah is well known for many things, but perhaps the best known story involving him is his duel with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, as recorded in the 18th chapter of 1 Kings.
5. Cain is the first murderer in the Old Testament. Who was the second one?

Answer: Lamech

The account of Lamech confessing he murdered a man appears in the fourth chapter of Genesis, the same chapter in which the report about Cain killing Abel appears. In Geneses 4:23, Lamech tells his wives Adah and Zillah he killed a young man for injuring him. However, the name of the victim is not disclosed and there are no other details.
6. The first hyphenated name in the Old Testament is Tubal-Cain with his name appearing in Genesis 4:19. Who is the second person in the Old Testament with a hyphenated name?

Answer: Ben-Ammi

Yes, I agree the question is obscure, but that's what trivia is all about. The name Ben-Ammi appears in Genesis 19:38. According to Scripture, Ben-Ammi was the result of an incestuous relationship between Lot and his youngest daughter. His first-born daughter was also impregnated by him and the infant was called Moab. According to Scripture, the two women got their father drunk so he would sleep with them to "preserve the lineage of our father." According to Genesis 19:15, the two women took such action because their father was old and the were no other men for them.
7. In the order the books appear in the New Testament, Matthew wrote the first Gospel. Who wrote the second one?

Answer: Mark

Mark is the correct answer. Although there is no conclusive proof, many theologians believe the writer was John Mark, a cousin of Barnabas. Similar to many people in the New Testament, John Mark often did not go by his full name and was simply referred to as Mark.

The Gospel of Mark is followed by Luke and John. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and John Mark had a major falling out, according to Acts 15:36-41. However, their fractured relationship was smoothed over as Paul states in 2 Timothy 4:11 he wanted Mark to come to him because he was helpful to him in his ministry.
8. Ananias and Sapphira is the first husband-wife team mentioned in the book of Acts. What's the second team?

Answer: Priscilla and Aquila

The correct answer is Priscilla and Aquila. The account of Ananias and Sapphira is found in the fifth chapter of Acts while Priscilla and Aquila make their appearance in the 18th chapter. It's interesting to note Priscilla's name often appears before Aquila's name in Scripture. And this at a time when women were often seen as second-class citizens.

Many people suspect the fact Priscilla's name appears before her husband's is testament to her brilliance and leadership abilities.
9. Cornelius is the first centurion mentioned by name in the New Testament. Who is the second centurion to be mentioned by name?

Answer: Julius

Julius is the correct answer. Cornelius appears in the 10th chapter of Acts while Julius appears in the 27th chapter. Centurions are mentioned a number of times in the New Testament, but Cornelius and Julius, are the only ones identified by name. Although centurions were part of a ruthless killing machine, they are portrayed in remarkably good light in the New Testament.

Incidentally, Cornelius was among the very first of the Gentile believers in a resurrected Jesus Christ.
10. According to Scripture, turning the water into wine was Jesus' first miracle. As per the fourth chapter of the Gospel of John, what was his second miracle?

Answer: Healing the nobleman's son of fever

According to the fourth chapter of John, the healing of the nobleman's son was the second miracle performed by Jesus. (The Gospel of John uses the word 'sign' rather than miracle.) Some theologians have different views about what indeed was the second miracle, however. Just go to Google and type in "Jesus' second miracle" and you will see what I mean.

Some believe it was the feeding of the 5,000 people with a pittance of food. However, going by the fourth chapter of John, the second miracle was the healing of the nobleman's son.
