Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A river flowed into the Garden of Eden. The Bible says it parts and forms fout heads or rivers. Can you name them?

Answer: Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates

Genesis 2:11-14 lists the four rivers that branched from the first. It must have been a substantial body of water to feed four more after watering the Garden of Eden.
2. Genesis 14:3 says: "All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea". What is the salt sea more commonly known as?

Answer: The Dead Sea

The clue here is the vale of Siddim, which we can tie to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Sodom and Gomorrah's ruins have been excavated near the shores of the Dead Sea. As the waters feeding the Dead Sea are being used more and more for agriculture, the salinity is increasing at a greater rate.

Its shores are receding as the rate of evaporation exceed the amount of water flowing into it.
3. The land promised to Abram (Abraham) was compassed by two rivers. One was the river of Egypt or the Nile river. What is the name of the other?

Answer: Euphrates

In verse 15:18 of Genesis, "God lay the boundary of what he promised to Abram". Today's Israel is but a fraction of the area God had promised in Genesis.
4. Which river in the Bible was turned into blood by Moses, not only as a sign from God, but perhaps as an illustration of the great loss Egypt would suffer later on?

Answer: Nile River

Not only was the Nile affected as recorded in Exodus 7:17-25, but tributaries, lakes, ponds, and stored water as well. Some doubters claim this was just red clay washing into the Nile, but how did it get into water pitchers, cisterns, and other bodies of water not directly connected to the Nile?
5. What body of water was parted so that Israel could escape the pursuing Egyptians?

Answer: Red Sea

Exodus 14:21: "And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a stong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided."
6. The Israelites crossed what body of water to enter Canaan?

Answer: Jordan

Joshua 1:1-2 gives the answer.
7. Why did David cross over the brook Kidron in 2 Samuel 15:23?

Answer: To flee from Absalom

After David was temporarily usurped by Absalom, he quickly left Jerusalem to avoid a conflict within the city. Years of apathy, adultery, and his mishandling of family matters caused strife in his family as well as the nation.
8. When Elijah's prophecy of drought came to pass because of the evil King Ahab, what body of water did he hide by where the ravens came and brought him food?

Answer: the brook Cherith

In chapter 17 of 1 Kings, God instructed Elijah to stay by the brook and He would provide for him. When the brook dried up from the drought, he moved on to stay with the widow who was on the verge of starving. God provided for them throughout the drought, and Elijah also brought her dead son back to life.
9. In Luke 5:3, Jesus taught from a boat on Lake Gennesaret. Who did the boat belong to?

Answer: Simon

Soon after this excursion, Jesus used a miraculously aided catch of fish to illustrate that they would catch men through the word (other Gospels refer to this as becoming fishers of men).
10. In preparation for a journey, the prophet Ezra called for a fast to seek God's will. What was the name of the body of water they fasted by?

Answer: The river of Ahava

In Ezra 8:21, Ezra prepared the hearts of the people. Ezra showed his faith in God's protection by not asking the King for protection on their journey back to Jerusalem in verse 22.
