Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Genesis 13:18, Abram and Lot parted ways. What area did Abram settle in?

Answer: Hebron

Genesis 13:18 - "Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mam're, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord."
2. Noah and his family lived in the ark from when the rains began until the earth was dried. What was the total span of time Noah and his family dwelt in the ark?

Answer: One year and ten days

Genesis 7:11 & 13 give the date that Noah entered the ark. 7:11 says,"In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month," is when the fountains of the earth and windows of heavens opened up. In 7:13 the Bible says, "In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark." This establishes the start date. Genesis 8:13-14 give the end date: "And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year ... in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried."
3. In Genesis chapters 48 and 49, Jacob began to bestow his blessings on his sons. Which son was given the double portion usually accorded the eldest?

Answer: Joseph

As some may know, Levi was not given an inheritance in the land, thus leaving Israel with only eleven tribes. In Genesis 48:5, Jacob said to Joseph, "And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine." This act gave Joseph's seed two portions in the promised land, thus the double portion.
4. After Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dreams, he gave him advice to put the surplus harvest in store for the years of famine. What was the portion to be set aside?

Answer: The fifth part

Genesis 41:34 says, "Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years."
5. Joseph was assigned a duty after being purchased by Potiphar. What was his eventual duty after Potiphar recognized that all that Joseph did was blessed?

Answer: Overseer

In Genesis chapter 39, the Bible recorded how everything Joseph did prospered. Potiphar recognized this, and made him "overseer" of all his household. Potiphar was a high ranking official under Pharaoh and most likely had not the time to manage his household affairs.

His constant absences from his house eventually got Joseph into trouble, due to the false accusations of Potiphar's scorned wife.
6. Despite God's promise to Abram and Sarai to give them a child, Sarah took matters into her own hands by giving her servant Hagar to Abram to bear him a child. What country or area was Hagar from?

Answer: Egypt

Genesis 16:3 says, "And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife." Hagar most likely became part of the household when Abram and Sarai dwelt in Egypt during the famine.

When Pharaoh took Sarai, assuming she was Abram's sister, he was compensated with various cattle and servants as described in Genesis 12:16.
7. Jacob journeyed to his mother's homeland to find himself a wife. During his trip, he stopped to sleep at a place called Luz. What did he rename the place, where he dreamed of angels ascending and descending a ladder that reached to heaven?

Answer: Beth-el

Genesis 28:12 describes the dream of Jacob, and in verse 28:19 the Bible says: "And he called the name of that place Beth-el, but the name of that city was called Luz at the first."
8. Who was the first person reported as being drunk after the great flood?

Answer: Noah

In Genesis 9:20,21, we learn "And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard. And he drank of the wine, and was drunken: and he was uncovered in his tent." This act of drunkenness preceded Ham's and Canaan's disrespect. Had not Noah overindulged in strong drink, the second incident would not have happened.
9. The two angels who came from the Lord in Genesis 18 went down to Sodom. Where did they spend the night before the city was destroyed?

Answer: Lot's house

Lot was all too aware of the evil that would befall the visitors if they stayed in the streets, and pleaded with them to stay with him in Genesis 19:3.
10. Just as Abraham his father in Genesis chapter 21, Isaac also met with Abimalech, king of the Philistines, in chapter 26. In both of these meetings, a third party was present. What was his name?

Answer: Phichol

In both Chapter 21 and 26 of Genesis, Phichol, the captain of the Philistine army, was present.
