Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am known as the mother of all the living. Who am I?

Answer: Eve

Eve, of course, is the correct answer. Genesis 3:20 states Adam called his wife Eve because she would become the mother of all living. It boggles the mind to think how many people she has become the mother of. (I suspect you could call this one the mother of all records!) According to Wikipedia, the population of the world at the beginning of 2010 was 6,875,300,000 with the population expected to jump to between 8 and 10.5 billion by 2050.

The 6,875,300,000 figure skyrockets when you consider the number of people who have ever lived.

In other words, in this reckoning, Eve has become the mother of countless billions.
2. I built a gigantic boat out of cypress wood as instructed by the Lord. Who am I?

Answer: Noah

Noah's story can be found in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth chapters of Genesis and he is one of the better known characters in the Old Testament. Scripture states the LORD was grieved at the wickedness of mankind and decided to wipe them from the face of the earth. Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the Lord and He instructed him to build an ark so he and his family could endure a horrific flood that would beset the world, Scripture states. According to Genesis 6:15, the ark was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.
3. I was betrayed by my brothers and sold into slavery. Who am I?

Answer: Joseph

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery in Egypt, only to eventually rise up to become second in command in the country with only the Pharaoh above him. There were setbacks along the way, of course, with him ending up in prison on false charges of attempting to rape Potiphar's wife.

His ordeal is one of the best known stories in the Old Testament and is told in the hit musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice. The story of Joseph starts in the 37th chapter of Genesis and runs through to the 50th chapter.
4. I was a prostitute who enabled Israelite spies to check out the land at Jericho before conquering it. Who am I?

Answer: Rahab

The story of Rahab the prostitute can be found in the second and sixth chapters of Joshua. Because she harbored two spies from the Israelite camp, Rahab and her family were spared when Joshua and his armed men succeeded in making the walls of Jericho fall down, just as the LORD told them in Joshua 6:2-5.

Incidentally, Rahab's name appears in Matthew 1:5 as part of the genealogy of Jesus and she is also saluted in Hebrews 11:31 for her "faith".
5. I was a female judge of Israel and my husband's name was Lappidoth. Who am I?

Answer: Deborah

The story of Deborah is told in the fourth chapter of Judges. Notes in the NIV Study Bible indicate Deborah was the only judge referred to as a prophetess. And according to Wikipedia, she was the "fourth, and the only female, Judge of pre-monarchic Israel in the Old Testament (Tanakh)."
6. I was a prophet who made an axhead float to the top of the water after it became lost. Who am I?

Answer: Elisha

The story of the floating axhead appears in 2 Kings 6:1-7. In a nutshell, Elisha and a group of prophets were cutting trees along the Jordan River to build a new place to live when suddenly an axhead fell into the water. The prophet who lost the axhead was apparently filled with distress as it was borrowed. (Talk about flying off the handle!) When Elisha asked the man where the axhead fell, the spot was pointed out to him. 2 Kings, 6-7, in the NIV Bible, states: "Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 'Lift it out,' he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it."
7. I was the first wife of King David. Who am I?

Answer: Michal

Michal is the correct answer. It's a long story, but Saul, the father of Michal, ordered David to produce the foreskins from 100 Philistines to win his daughter's hand as he firmly believed David would be killed in the process and he would no longer have to contend with him. David, however, killed twice as many Philistines as needed and easily won Michal's hand, much to the consternation of Saul.
8. I was the first born son of Ruth and Boaz. Who am I?

Answer: Obed

Obed is the correct answer. Ruth 4:17 states Obed was the father of Jesse and Jesse was the father of David, one of the most prominent figures in the Old Testament.
9. I was the cousin of Queen Esther and worked with her to save the Jewish people. Who am I?

Answer: Mordecai

Mordecai figures prominently in the book of Esther. He teamed with Queen Esther to comprise a dynamic duo that saved the day for the Jewish people. In fact, had it not been for this duo, there's a very real possibility Haman would have had his way and had all the Jews executed in the region ruled over by King Xerxes.

After Haman was thwarted, he ended up being hanged on the gallows he had rigged for the intended execution of Mordecai.
10. I was a king who had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Who am I?

Answer: Solomon

According to 1 Kings 11:1-3, Solomon had 700 official wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. The wives led him astray and as he grew old, his heart was turned after other gods and he was not fully devoted to the Lord, Scripture states.
