Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below, which one is most associated with 'Saul and David'?

Answer: Michal

Michal is the correct answer. All four women in the answers were wives of David; however, Michal was also the daughter of Saul, according to Scripture. It's a bit of a long story, but Saul ordered David to produce the foreskins from 100 Philistines to win Michal's hand as he firmly believed David would be killed in the process and he would no longer have to contend with him. According to the 18th chapter of 1 Samuel, David killed twice as many Philistines as needed and easily won Michal's hand, much to the consternation of Saul.
2. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'kingship at age twelve'?

Answer: Manasseh

Manasseh became king at the tender age of 12 and, according to Scripture, ruled until he was 67. Scripture states Manasseh was extremely brutal. 2 Kings 21:16, in the NIV Bible, states Manasseh "shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end." Scripture also reports he worshiped false gods and rebuilt high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed. According to Wikipedia, the name Manasseh means "causing to forget."
3. Out of the four names below, which one is most associated with 'Judah and Tamar'?

Answer: Perez

The correct answer is Perez, the twin brother of Zerah, and the son of Judah and Tamar. Genesis 38:28-30, in the NIV Bible, offers this account of Tamar giving birth to twins: "As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, 'This one came out first.' But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, 'So this is how you have broken out!' And he was named Perez. Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out. And he was named Zerah."

Incidentally, Perez was an ancestor of King David, as per Ruth 4:18-22. Perez's name also shows up in the genealogy of Jesus in the third chapter of Luke.
4. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with the names 'Aspatha, Adalia, Aridatha, Arisai and Aridai'?

Answer: Haman

According to Esther 9:7-9, ten sons were killed with their father Haman who had a diabolical scheme to exterminate the Jews. Surprisingly, five of the ten sons had names that started with the letter 'A' -- Aspatha, Adalia, Aridatha, Arisai and Aridai'. Three other sons had names that started with the letter 'P': Parshandatha, Poratha and Parmashta. The two remaining sons were Dalphon and Vaizatha.

Haman was thwarted in his plans to kill the Jews by Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai.
5. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being 'a judge of Israel'?

Answer: Tola

Tola is the correct answer. According to Judges 10:1-2, Tola judged Israel for 23 years. Scripture states Tola was the son of Puah and the grandson of Dodo and he lived in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim. According to the two passages, Tola "rose to save Israel". After he died he was buried in Shamir, according to Scripture.
6. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being a 'mighty warrior'?

Answer: Abishai

The correct answer is Abishai. Perhaps one of the reasons he was a "mighty warrior" was because he was a relative of David, the shepherd boy who slew Goliath and went on to accomplish a long list of military feats. Scripture reports Abishai was the oldest son of David's sister Zeruiah and he was the brother of Joab and Asahel. (I Chronicles 2:16).

When you see Abishai's name in Scripture, chances are he is involved in warfare.
7. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being 'the mother of Moses'?

Answer: Jochebed

The story of baby Moses is told in Exodus 2:1-10. Jochebed's name appears in Exodus 6:20 and Numbers 26:59. She placed Moses in a small basket along the banks of the Nile River where he was discovered by members of the Pharaoh's household and ended up being raised by them.

In addition to being the mother of Moses, she had two other famous offspring -- Aaron and Miriam. Jochebed was from the tribe of Levi and was the wife of Amram.
8. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being 'a high priest deposed by Solomon'?

Answer: Abiathar

Abiathar is the correct answer. 1 Kings 1 tells of Adonijah receiving the support of Abiathar in his quest to become king, but it was all for naught as Bathsheba intervened to make sure her son Solomon would become king. The second chapter tells of Solomon being extremely angry with Abiathar and even going as far as to state he thought he should die for his actions, as per verse 26.

The end result was that Abiathar was banished to Anathoth.
9. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'writing the shortest book in the Old Testament'?

Answer: Obadiah

The correct answer is Obadiah, a book consisting of only one chapter. According to Wikipedia, Obadiah means "servant (or worshipper) of the Lord". He is one of the twelve minor prophets in the Old Testament.
10. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'the sun standing still and the moon stopping'?

Answer: Joshua

The account of the sun and moon standing still can be found in the 10th chapter of Joshua. While in the middle of an intensive battle with the Amorites, Joshua prayed to God the sun and moon would stay put, Scripture states. Some people believe Joshua asked for the extra daylight so the enemies would not overpower his forces at night. Joshua 10:12-14, in the NIV Bible states: "On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel: 'Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.' So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.

There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!"
