The Mercalli, Rossi-Forel, and the Medvedev-Sponheuer-Karnik scale are used to measured earthquakes.

The Ludwig scale is used for female pattern baldness.

The Schmidt scale is used for measuring the pain from the receiving of insect stings. Zero is given for least painful, and four is given to the most painful. A fire ant scores 1.2, and a bullet ant scores a perfect 4.0.

For record, a pomologist studies fruit, a speleologist caves, and a pharmacologist medicine.

Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon teamed up to create a scale that would measure if school kids are lacking behind on their curriculum. Binet made two publications of his work in 1908 and 1911, the last before his death.
