1. Who is the 2002 Daytona 500 Champion?

Answer: Ward Burton

Ward won the race in only his 6th start in the Great American Race. It was also the first Daytona 500 victory for car owners Bill and Gail Davis.
2. Who started on the pole for the Daytona 500?

Answer: Jimmie Johnson

Johnson took the pole for the race in only his 4th Winston Cup start. He finished 15th in the race after a late race penalty for going below the yellow line.
3. 'The Big One' as the drivers call it, occurred on lap 148, it began when Jeff Gordon tapped the right-rear of this driver's car?

Answer: Kevin Harvick

Jeff Gordon had a run to make the pass on Harvick, but he tried to block the move and was tapped by Gordon. Since Harvick was running in the top 5 when the tap occurred, Harvick collected 17 other cars in the wreck. All drivers came out of the wreck ok.

Earnhardt Jr had many problems during the race, he ran over some debris early and cut his right front tire, he cut another tire later in the race. He finished in 29th place, 29 laps down.

Answer: Pulling the fender away from the tire

On the restart after Robby Gordons spin off turn 4, Sterling Marlin held back to gain some momentum on then leader, Jeff Gordon. When the green flag was shown the field bunched up and caused 5 cars to spin and wreck. The leaders took the green flag, but would come back around to get the yellow, Marlin got a run on Gordon and went underneath him, Gordon tried to block the move but hit Marlin in the right front, causing Gordon to spin and Marlin to bend the quarter panel into the tire.

He tried to fix it during the red flag, but NASCAR rules states that you are not allowed to work on the cars under the red flag. Marlin was pentalized and sent to the end of the longest line.

He finished 8th. Gordon finished 9th.
6. How many caution flags were there in the race?

Answer: 9

Though most of them were for wrecks, a few were for debris on the track.
7. The highest finishing rookie in the 500 finished 7th. Who was it?

Answer: Ryan Newman

Johnson started on the pole but had trouble late in the race but rallied to finish 15th. Robinson was caught in two different wrecks and finished 24th. Busch finished 4th but he is in is 2nd year on the Winston Cup circuit.

The six are: Jeff Gordon - 95, 97, 98, 01, Terry Labonte - 85 and 96, Rusty Wallace - 89, Bobby Labonte - 00, Dale Jarrett - 99, and Bill Elliot - 88.

The other two former winner are 2001 Champion Micheal Waltrip and the 1986 winner Geoff Bodine.
