Usain Bolt (Jamaica) achieved what was termed the "triple triple" meaning the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m Relay gold medals at three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012 and 2016), 9 gold medals in just 9 events.

Michael Phelps (USA) won a total of 23 gold medals from 2004-2016. He won the 200m individual medley (swimming) gold medal at four consecutive Olympics plus gold medals in the 100m and 200m butterfly at three consecutive Olympics. Mo Farah (GB) won gold at the 5000m and 10000m at London 2012 and Rio 2016, a total of four gold medals. Kaori Icho (JPN) became the first female in any individual Olympic sport to win four consecutive gold medals. She achieved this feat in freestyle wrestling from 2004-2016.

In January 2017 the 2008 team were stripped of their medals when one of the team tested positive for a banned substance (the blood sample of Nesta Carte was retested).

Western Bulldogs FC was founded in 1877 in Footscray (a suburb of Melbourne, Australia). They entered the Australian Rules premier competition in 1925 and won their first premiership in 1954. It wasn't until 2016 that they won their second premiership after a wait of 62 years.

The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, was founded in 1869 and they won their first Premiership in 1975. The Sydney Swans was founded in 1874 as the South Melbourne Football Club. They relocated to Sydney in 1982 and as the Sydney Swans they won their first Premiership in 2005, a wait of 72 years since 1933. The Greater Western Sydney Giants was only founded in 2009.

The Chicago Cubs was established in 1876 and were originally known as the Chicago White Stockings. They became the Chicago Cubs in 1903. They won the World Series in 1907 and 1908. They won their next World Series in 2016 after a wait of 108 years.

The Cleveland Indians were established in 1894 and won the World Series in 1920 and 1948. In 2016 they were beaten in 7 games by the Chicago Cubs. The San Diego Padres were established in 1969 have appeared twice in the World Series (1984 and 1998) but losing on both occasions. The Pittsburgh Pirates were established in 1882 and have won five World Series, the last being in 1979.

Sheffield United FC last won the title in 1898 and were still waiting for their next after 118 years. West Bromwich Albion last won the title in 1920 and were still waiting after 96 years for their next one.

Henrik Stenson won the British Open at Royal Troon, Scotland shooting 20 under par. As a youngster growing up in Gothenburg, Sweden, Henrik was a natural left-hander but was taught to play golf right-handed. Born in 1976, he turned professional in 1998 and since then has won 19 tournament world-wide. This includes five on the US Tour and eleven on the European Tour. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio he won a silver medal behind Justin Rose of England. The first Swedish golfer to win a golfing major was Liselotte Neumann, who in 1988 won the US Women's Open at the Baltimore Country Club.

In 2016 Argentina won their first-ever Davis Cup Final after making their debut in the tournament in 1921. They had been runner-up on four other occasions (1981, 2006, 2008 and 2011). Croatia were runners-up to Argentina in 2016 (they had won the cup for the first time in 2005). Great Britain won the Davis Cup in 2015 after a wait of 79 years since 1936. Japan debuted in the Davis Cup in 1921 and are still waiting for their first Davis Cup final win.

The Golden State Warriors were established in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors, then in 1962 as the San Francisco Warriors and then in 1971 as Golden State. They won the NBA Championship in 1947, 1956, 1975 and 2015. The Sacramento Kings were founded in 1948 Rochester, New York, then Cincinnati to Kansas City and finally to Sacramento in 1985. They last won the NBA Championship as the Rochester Royals in 1951 beating the New York Knickerbockers in game 7. When Anthony Ervin (USA) won gold in the 50m Freestyle in Rio, he became the oldest swimmer to win gold at the Olympics. He had won the same event in 2000 in Sydney as a 19 year old.

Michael Phelps (USA) has won 23 Olympic gold medals and in Rio he was 31 years old. At age 58 years, Nick Skelton (GB) won the gold medal in Rio in the Equestrian for individual jumping. He had also won gold in 2012 in the team event. At the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, Oscar Swahn (SWE) was 64 years of age when he won a gold medal for the running deer team. He also won a silver medal in shooting at the 1920 Olympics when he was 72 years of age.

The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks were founded in 1963. They joined the NRL in 1967 and had to wait until 2016 to win their first NRL Premiership beating Melbourne Storm. Melbourne Storm was founded in 1997 and although beaten by the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the NRL Final in 2016 they had won the Premiership on two occasions, being 1999 and 2012.

The Parramatta Eels was formed in 1946 and had won the NRL Premiership on four occasions (their 4th was in 1986). The Balmain Tigers were founded in 1908 and had won eleven Premierships (their 11th was in 1969).

Answer: Joseph Schooling (Singapore)

Singapore have competed in the Olympics since 1948 having won two silver and two bronze medals until 2016. Joseph Schooling (b. 1995) won the Men's 100m Butterfly gold medal in 50.93 creating a New Olympic Record. He beat Michael Phelps (USA) and Chad le Clos (RSA).

However, at the Rio Olympics there were nine other nations that won their first ever Olympic gold medal.
