1. Which team in 1990 had the worst record in Major League Baseball, then found themselves in the World Series in 1991?

Answer: Atlanta Braves

The statue shown is of the great Hank Aaron, who hit over 700 home runs for the Braves. The Braves finished the 1990 season with an embarrassing 65-97 record, only to bounce back the following season by going 94-68. They met the Twins in the 1991 World Series but lost four games to three.
2. Which first baseman became the first in modern-day history to play in an entire season and not hit even one home run?

Answer: Pete Rose

After playing in 16 seasons for the Reds which began in 1963, Pete became a Phillie in 1979. His 1983 season saw him play in 151 games, with 112 at first base without hitting one out. Known for his hustle and not his power, Rose hit 160 career home runs over his 24 seasons. His final season was back with the Reds in 1986.

The Cubs franchise was the only franchise listed that was there in 1876, the National League's inaugural season. They were the Chicago White Stockings and won the first-ever league pennant. The Giants franchise first joined the National League in 1883 as the New York Gothams. The Phillies franchise was there also in 1883 as the Philadelphia Quakers. The Pirates were the Pittsburgh Alleghenys and did not join the NL until 1886. The New York Mets also joined the National League in 1962.

4. In 1968, this player was the first American League infielder to play in 150+ games in a season and never hit into a double-play. Who was this all-star?

Answer: Dick McAuliffe

McAuliffe played 14 of his 16 seasons with the Tigers, and was the only Tiger listed. He had 658 plate appearances in 1968, and did not hit into one double-play in the entire season. His part helped contribute to Denny McLain and the Tigers going to the World Series, and defeating the St. Louis Cardinals.
5. This player finished the 1990 season and batted .274 for the Oakland Athletics in the American League. He was still the winner of the National League batting crown for the Cardinals. Who was this player?

Answer: Willie McGee

McGee wore the number 51 throughout his entire 18-season career. He began it all with the Cardinals in 1982, then was involved in a trade in late August 1990 for Daryl Green of the Athletics. At the time, Willie had over 500 at-bats and a .335 average with the Cardinals, enough to qualify for the batting title.

He topped Eddie Murray of the Dodgers for the NL batting crown. It was McGee's second batting title.
6. In 1979, Pittsburgh Pirate Willie Stargell shared the National League season MVP Award for the first time in history with another player. Which slugger was co-MVP?

Answer: Keith Hernandez

The picture depicted the St. Louis Cardinal logo, and none of the others played for the Cardinals. Known as "Pops", Stargell was a career Pirate of 21 seasons. Both Willie and Keith tied with 64% of the MVP balloting, while Dave Winfield of the Padres finished third with 46%.

Answer: Walter Johnson

Johnson wasn't a mayor, but he did play his entire 21-season career with the Washington Senators. It was October 15, 1925, with the Senators and Pirates tied at three games each. Johnson gave up eight doubles in losing game seven. Max Carey hit three and Kiki Cuyler hit two against the 1924 AL MVP Johnson.

The Pirates won game seven, 9-7. The others listed never played for Washington, or went to a postseason game in his careers.

Torre played in 18 seasons, with his final being the player-manager of the 1977 New York Mets. He kept the helm of the Mets until 1981, then became manager of the Braves for three seasons. He retired from the game but then came back in 1990 as top dog with the St. Louis Cardinals for six seasons. Fans saw him in the pinstripes of the Yankees in 1996, then won six American League pennants along with four World Series with them.

His final three seasons was at the helm of the Dodgers from 2008-2010. Joe had a career record of 2326-1997. The picture is of bobblehead Joe Torre as manager of the Dodgers.

Jackson was the only Yankee listed, as the Yankee flag flew in the picture. He hit an amazing five home runs in the 1977 series against the Dodgers, including three in the final game six. Reggie, nicknamed "Mr. October" for his postseason play, hit 18 postseason home runs, with 10 in the World Series.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. The Babe hit his three in a single game in each of the 1926 and 1928 series.
10. Which of the following was the oldest player to play in a Major League game?

Answer: Satchel Paige

Paige was most noted for winning an undocumented 2000+ games in the Negro Leagues before joining the Cleveland Indians in 1948. He retired in 1953 with the St. Louis Browns, then came back for one game in 1965 with the Kansas City Athletics at the age of 59. Satchel started that game and pitched for three innings, allowing one hit, no runs, and had one strikeout.

The hit belonged to Red Sox great Carl Yastrzemski in the form of a double. The embarrassing strikeout was given to opposing Red Sox pitcher Bill Monbouquette. Boston won the game 5-2.
