Ruth retired with 714 home runs. The Yankees were dominant in the 1950s as they went to eight World Series, but won 'only' six. Bonds was a rookie in 1986 with the Pirates, but finished sixth in the voting with no first place votes. Pitcher Todd Worrell of the Cardinals won the award in a landslide. Robinson won the Triple Crown with the Orioles in 1966, one season after being traded from the Cincinnati Reds. Robinson won the AL MVP in 1966, his second MVP, and the World Series MVP in 1966 also.

Banks was a shortstop in the first half of his career, and won two NL MVPs in 1958 and 1959. Robinson, a fixture for the Orioles, played his entire 23-season career with Baltimore. Brooks won the 1964 AL MVP along with 16 Gold Gloves at third base. Robinson went to four World Series while winning two.

He was a Hall of Fame inductee in 1983.

The Hall of Fame opened its doors in 1936 to five inductees. They were Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Christy Mathewson.
