1. Which franchise was once known as the 'Grooms' and the 'Bridegrooms'?

Answer: Dodgers

The Dodger franchise began in 1884 as the Brooklyn Atlantics for only 1 season. From there they changed to the Brooklyn Grays from 1885-1887. Then from the Grays, then changed to the Brooklyn Bridegrooms from 1888-1890, where they won the American Association title in 1989, and the (today called) World Series in 1890.

The Grooms appeared from 1891-1895. The franchise tried the Bridegrooms again from 1896-1898. With another two name changes, they finally became the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1911, but played musical chairs with the franchise name for many more years.

In 1932, the Dodger name stuck until they moved to Los Angeles in 1958. Under the 'Dodger' name throughout the 20th century, the franchise has won 12 National League pennants, and 6 World Series.
2. Which of the following retired with more career hits?

Answer: Hank Aaron

Aaron has the others listed beat, by almost 600 career hits with 3,771. The other 3 are topped with Ripken Jr with 3,184, and the others within 50 of him. Aaron who ranks number 3 in most hits in the 20th century, played in the big leagues for 23 seasons with the Braves franchise of Milwaukee in 1954, moving to Atlanta until 1974, and then played his final two seasons of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1975 and 1976.

His final 171 hits were with the Brewers. Although 'Hammerin Hank' was known for his clout in the home run department, he also retired with a lifetime batting average of .308.
3. Ted Williams played 1 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates?

Williams, another one of those loyal one-team players, played his entire career for the Red Sox from 1939-1960. Although missing 3 seasons due to military service, he compiled outstanding statistics for Boston. He retired with 521 home runs, along with an amazing .344 batting average. Ted made only one World Series trip in 1946 against the St.Louis Cardinals, but lost the Series.

He batted .200 in his only appearance.
4. Miller Huggins was the first manager inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Two managers were inducted into the Hall of Fame in the 2nd season of the award. They were John McGraw and Connie Mack in 1937. Huggins was not inducted in the Hall until 1964. McGraw managed from 1899-1932, mainly with the New York Giants, while Mack who started managing in 1894 was inducted before he retired from baseball. He retired 13 years after his induction in 1950.
5. Which of the following pitchers retired with more career Major League wins?

Answer: Fernando Valenzuela

Valenzuela who started 'Fernando Mania' in 1980 with the Dodgers, retired with 173 wins over 17 seasons retiring in 1997. Koufax's illustrious but tragic-shortened career, K'd his way to 165 wins in only 12 seasons with the Dodgers by winning 25 or more games three times in a season. Bo and Satchel matched wins with 28 each.
6. Which of the following was the first team to win 3 World Series titles since the World Series began in 1903?

Answer: Philadelphia Athletics

The Athletics led by manager Connie Mack, won their first Series crown in 1910 by beating the Cubs 4 games to 1. The made a curtain call the following year and beat the New York Giants 4 games to 2. Their 3rd Series win was in 1913 with a 4-1 slashing of the Giants again.

The Dodgers did not their first World Series title until 1955. The Cubs never completed the hat-trick in the 20th century and won only the 1907 and 1908 World Series. The Astros did not exist until 1965.

The Angels blessed Major League baseball in 1961 as the Los Angeles Angels, who were managed by Bill Rigney in their inaugural year. They were led by the great Leon Wagner who topped the team with 28 home runs, and the pitching arm of Ken McBride who could only manage 12 wins.

The Angels finished the season a dismal 8th place. The Astros began their franchis in baseball in 1962 as the Houston Colt .45's. The Padres and Royals were inducted in 1969.

Denton True 'Cy' Young led the Majors in the 20th century by winning 511 wins from 1890-1911. Most of his career wins were via the Cleveland Spiders of the National League. The Spiders closed shop from baseball in 1899. The most outstanding pitcher in a season award was named after him, The Cy Young Award.

The first Cy award was handed out in 1956 to the Brooklyn Dodger's Don Newcombe. In all the years of this great, Young never pitched in a post-season game.

Answer: Nolan Ryan

Robinson was handed the award in 1956 with his outstanding year with the Cincinnati Reds. 'The Mac' earned the award with the Giants in 1959, and Rose with the Reds in 1963. Amongst the warehouse full of Ryan's statistics and awards in baseball, he was not a Rookie of the Year.

He started his career off slow with the Mets in 1966. It wasn't until 6 seasons later that his career started to take off with the Angels in 1972, when he won 19 games and struck out 329 batters.
10. The team name of the Bees, Rustlers, and Doves, once belonged to the Cleveland Indians franchise?

In addition to the Bees, Rustlers, and Doves, the Beaneaters and Red Caps belonged to the Atlanta Braves franchise. The franchise began in 1876 with the Red Caps in Boston. Through many name changes, they became the Milwaukee Braves in 1953, until the moved to Atlanta in 1966.
